Lovely food & fantastic service! Spicy salsa is good for a change. One of the best lunch specials I’ve had around!

When I’m down home around Jackson Cape Girardeau area got to stop in El torero! Everything I have gotten there has been really delicious and hot one of my favorite Mexican restaurants around the area and you’re getting your money’s worth!

The three of us were seated at a table, not a booth. They brought out our water in cold frosty mugs, which was really terrific! The chips and salsa followed, and the salsa was just okay, not very spicy…the chips are thicker than I am used to, as well. The food was good, but the queso was very watery. I think we prefer the food at La Luna or Don Carlos more. As for the service, it was good when we came in, and the food was brought to us quickly, but the waiter never came back to check on us…he just brought us the check before we finished. The place was pretty empty, too, so no excuse for not stopping by our table during our lunch. And, as far as the atmosphere, the seat cushions were dirty and a fly kept bothering us. It was annoying.

My husband and I were planning to go to another Mexican restaurant on the same road, but judging on outsides, we came here, where the outside walls were stone and there was a bull statue. The service was great (polite and friendly), and the chips and salsa were promising of a good meal to come. Although the chips seemed a little stale, it didn’t affect the taste (and maybe they are just a thicker chip) and the salsa was really good. Good consistency and the right amount of heat on the back end. Unfortunately, the flavor hit its high point with the salsa. I ordered the El Torero burrito, since it’s usually a good move to go with a dish named after the restaurant. It was an el pastor (pork) burrito with third covered in green sauce, third in cheese sauce and third in red sauce. Neither sauce had much flavor or heat. The pork did have a good flavor, but it got lost in all the tomatoes, onions and peppers it was cooked with. Although I like that mix of veggies in my burrito, some bites had much more of that than the pork. My husband got the Jalisco special, which had steak, chicken and shrimp with big chunks of tomatoes, onions and green peppers. Although he said everything was cooked well, it didn’t have much flavor. Another case of Mexican food being made less delicious for midwestern palates. A shame. I have a feeling these cooks can probably cook much better food for their families.

Food was some of the best I have eaten. Drinks were perfect. We had a long island ice tea and a margarita on the rocks. Both were superb. The mix didn’t leave that overly sour taste, and the sweet was just right. Could be a bit cleaner, but the food and service was perfect.

Service was impeccable very polite very accommodating I asked if they had Mellow Yellow she brought me Mountain Dew to most people that’s the same thing but I don’t like Mountain Dew because Mello Yello is a little sweeter and smoother so it’s no big deal just so you no though if you don’t have it say you don’t we asked for a more Milder salsa and they brought us spaghetti sauce like canned or Jarred spaghetti sauce that had been heated up in a bowl I asked for guacamole and I got a mashed up avocado with nothing else in it their enchilada Supreme tasted like dirty pan and don’t even get me started on their tamales it’s not the worst tamale I’ve ever had but it’s like the third worst and I have probably tried 30 different restaurants tamales they’re in the bottom five for sure

We stopped here on our way home to Memphis from Saint Louis. The server was super friendly and fun, and the enchiladas mango was my Dream Mexican Meal. It was huge, creamy, and delicious. Had enough leftover for lunch today, AND it’s just as yummy. Highly recommend swinging by here.

The atmosphere and booth that I was sat at was soo nice. I felt very comfortable. The menu is huge and the font is small on the dinner combo list.
The server was quick and pleasant. The pollo fundido was a dish I had never tried… It was well made but now I know that it is not something I will order again. That is just me going out of my comfort zone so it is likely an amazing dish to those who order it knowing what they are getting lol.

The stuffed burrito with chicken was flavorless, I nearly sent it back. My cousin let me try his food that had steak and the it tasted amazing. Knowing that I don’t think I’ll order the chicken ever again. I visit MO from time to time. Also, with my group my one of us wanted a tequila sunrise but they said they were out of orange juice. Then I tried to order a virgin pina colada and they said they were out of pina colada. I just didn’t understand why they were not stocked on a Friday night. It wasn’t even late. Not the best experience.

Atmosphere was beautiful, but food didn’t have hardly any spice or flavor. Our server was doing too much and mansplained the menu to us. I didn’t like my margarita the first time (it was brown?) so I asked him to make me another one with top shelf. He charged a dollar more for top and made his own concoction he came up with instead of the margarita. It had way too much alcohol and I didn’t feel well after from having god knows how many liquors were mixed in there. Still giving three stars because I only visited once and I’m not from here so I know my expectations are different from locals.
