Nachos El Tlaxcalteca
This plate consisted of corn tortilla chips, lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream, onions, jalapeños, cilantro, and choice of meat.
I chose carne asada.
The chips to toppings ratio was balanced.
The portion size was enough for 1 adult.
The pricing was reasonable.
Overall, I did not like this plate. The meat was dry and overcooked, the cheese sauce was bland and tasted burnt.
I would not order these nachos again.

El Tlaxcalteca is one of our absolute go-to spots in Milwaukee whenever we’re craving birria. We’re regulars here, and honestly, this place is such a hidden gem. The food is consistently amazing, packed with flavor, and never disappoints.
We’ve tried so many items on their menu, but our favorite combo has to be the birria ramen. It’s rich, comforting, and full of bold flavor. We’ve also had the birria pizza, quesabirria tacos, the birria sandwich, and the birria torta, and every single dish has been delicious. You really can’t go wrong with anything here.
The service is always friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. The ambiance is casual and cozy, perfect for sitting down and enjoying a really good meal without feeling rushed.
If you’re a birria lover or just looking for a place that delivers consistently great food, I highly recommend El Tlaxcalteca. This is easily one of the top spots we go to, and we’ll definitely keep coming back.

Overall, the food was okay. I tried the birria tacos, and while the flavor was pretty decent, some of the meat was a bit dry and there was a little too much tortilla for my taste. It wasn’t a bad experience. Might give it another shot to try something else on the menu.

We ordered the Combo #3: 3 quesadillas + 8oz consomé, and wow These were next level – cheesy, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and paired with rich, flavorful consomé that pulled it all together. Easily one of the best bites we’ve had in Milwaukee.
We also tried the chicken mole, and I’m still dreaming about it. The mole has a sweeter profile than most — layered, complex, and absolutely delicious. If you’re a mole fan (or even if you’re not), this is a must.
This place isn’t flashy, but the food speaks for itself – bold, comforting, and clearly made with love. I feel fully confident saying this is some of the best Mexican food in Milwaukee!

My son in law saw on TikTok the Machete and wanted to try it for his birthday. So being the MIL that I am we went today along with my son. SIL ordered the Machete and a burrito thinking he’d somehow eat both of them. He ate most of the burrito and maybe 1/4 of the Machete but said both were really good. My son ordered the Birria Pizza and only made it thru 2 slices, but he also said it was very good. I am not adventurous and ordered a taco dinner. It was supposed to be chicken but the boys told me it was steak. Either way it tasted fine. Waitress was nice but English wasn’t really good so for me who speaks no Spanish I had a little trouble. Overall I think we’d add this place to our go to Mexican food destinations.

This is a great Mexican restaurant. Our server did not speak english, but I have google translate, and my daughter spoke enough that it wasn’t a problem. The food was amazing. I’m planning on going back again soon with my son, and sharing this with him as well. It is not in the best area, but i’m going during the day, and I feel fine with that. The food is worth it. We had birria tacos, and Mole enchiladas. Both were just delicious.

I was very excited to try this place, and it was worth the 1hr drive! It’s one of those hidden gem/hole in the wall type of places. The owners and staff had amazing customer service! We had several dishes but by far the Birria Tacos w the semi crunchy tortilla and flavorful tender beef was my favorite! They had Tamarindo and Jamaica drinks available, my fav! And the CHORIQUESO appetizer was excellent! The neighborhood is deff lively and very busy. Located next to a huge grocery store and free huge parking lot. I highly recommend the food here! They also have pick up available.

The food and service were awesome. I had two vampiros de birria & consume and a burrito de al pastor to go. The vampiros were amazing and though I felt the burrito could have been a lil larger it was also amazing! I look forward to returning and trying the rest of the menu items!!!
