Years ago, I happened upon Al Carbon, which served roast chicken along with cemitas, an awesome sandwich loaded with meat, cheese, avocado and more. Well, Al Carbon is gone, but El Tizon has taken its place, and the cemitas is still on the menu, as awesome as ever. You can order it up with any of the meats they also use to fill tacos, be it carne asada, pork al pastor, you name it. I went with the carne asada this time around, and was treated to a huge sandwich loaded with goodness, and topped with a spicy chipotle sauce. A little bit messy and a whole lot delicious.
While taquerias are abundant, this is the only place I’ve found where I can get this sandwich, so El Tizon will be a mandatory stop any time I’m here in Charlottesville.
Prices are reasonable, service is quick and the food is top-notch … especially if one judges by the satisfied looks on the faces of the other patrols dining these. Go, you can thank me later for this tip.

The food was amazing. Everything tasted very fresh and was well prepared. The rotisserie chicken is tender and flavorful. I tried three different tacos and would get them all again, although I’m sure whatever choice you make can’t miss. Will definitely be coming back in the future.

The food was alright. It was hot and ready quickly but didn’t taste as fresh as what we were expecting.

El Tizon (or the original Al Carbon) has always been a go to casual lunch or dinner spot. The chicken family meal is a great, healthy dinner and the vegetable chicken soup is amazing in the winter. But I just went today and had a chicken quesadilla (a new menu item) — it was DELICIOUS! If a taco and a chicken cheese steak sub had a baby this is what it would taste like. Bravo!!

This is hands down the best burrito place in town (as well as it’s sister location Al Carbon).
The fried yucca, cactus, rotisserie chicken made right in front of you.
Huge portions for the right price.
So happy to have both spots in town

Go here now! Every time we’ve been here the food has been excellent, except one time when the food was just really good. Their rotisserie chicken is finger-licking good! The roasted veggies are delicious. The plantains are a must-eat with the sweet sauce. I could go on, but seriously get the rotisserie chicken. Highly recommend.
Reasonably priced for great food. Two of us share the Para Papa for $20 after tax and leave full and happy!

A go to place for authentic flavourful reasonably priced latino food. Previously known as Al Carbon, a hole in the wall, serving the best rottiserrie chicken in town. Still keeping the tradition alive. The new decor is warm and inviting with 100% Mexican vibe. Love it.
