Low-key eatery offering a range of traditional Mexican grub in an informal setting.

First time visiting, and it was a really good experience. Our food was delicious, and the service was great and quick. My only small gripe was the margarita — I asked for a regular one but got a strawberry margarita instead. No complaints on the taste, it was actually really good so I didn’t say anything but I did notice we were charged an extra dollar for the strawberry flavor, lol. Either way, we’ll definitely be back! The tortillas were amazing! But I won’t be ordering a $16 Margarita.

Plave wasAce back 10-20 years ago. has really gone down. nachos were stale cheese and beans got cold quick. puffy tacos are smaller. Apparently they no longer use ground beef. they use beef chili. no bueno. but service was great, Thank you Robert.

El Tipico is known for the best mexican food in the city over 50 years going strong, I’ve eaten here for a very long time and in recent times ive seen the change. The one thing you absolutely don’t change is the enchiladas sauce and they did. Why? It was the best for over 50 years. One time they put regular ground beed not the enchiladas sauce in the puffy tacos big mistake it changed the whole flavor! Now to move forward and change the enchilada sauce, its not the same. Its too runny taste like store bought sauce not homemade. The other thing that has changed is the chips, where are the homemade chips?? Used to have corn white and red chips..no more? Now the chips don’t even taste fried they are store bought and taste stale. The next thing is different waiters would automatically bring fresh corn and flour tortillas to the table…with butter! You have to ask and I dont even know if they make corn anymore fresh to the table. THE FLOUR IS GOOD, BUT OFFER BUTTER… The beans and rice are still okay and breakfast is okay…but Its the mexican food that went down… The prices were so much cheaper back then and got way more food. You have to ask for more tea once they take your food plate away. Why cant we get El Tipico back??? This change is not welcome to the ones that kept them in business all these years. I dont feel I can recommend it anymore…its dissapointing for sure. Maybe change the name to El Tipico express, because this not the original recipes, its tasting more like fast food.

Now I have been coming here for a while. And I always gets the same order rice and beef fajitas. Today I went and I spent almost 30$ to only get 3 orders of old Spanish rice that’s so old and ever hard. I was very upset when I made it home. I called they picks up the phone and plays like the connection is bad and hangs up. That’s very very lazy. Their In their Not working Turing down costumers. All because they don’t want to work and fix the food. I went back there the lady took it and I guess she went and showed it to the manager. So she comes back and tells me. We can Not change this Rice this is the only rice we have and we can give u any money back because u didn’t check it before u left. But my receipt shows the timing less then 20 minutes I lives 7 minutes away. She told me her Name was Linda and She’s only a cashier there. I don’t believe her. I said ok I’ll bring it back in the morning to let the manager know what you all or selling costumer. And running away het business. Sorry lazy workers. Everyone Knows and can tell when rice been sitting up for to long

We love this place and been going for 30+ years, however the food quality has definitely declined. Their puffy taco didn’t have cheese on it and the enchilada sauce tasted store bought. Wish it was like the old days.

Nice atmosphere and okay food. This place was recommended to me for the puffy tacos which were pretty decent. The cheese enchiladas were good but they used processed cheese for everything. American cheese is fine it’s the enchiladas are 6.99 but at these prices, no thanks. The floor tortillas had that nice dense homemade flavor to them. Oh and that big chunk of meat on top of the enchilada was very pink inside.

The food and service has definitely changed and not better. Took over 10 mins for our drink order and menus. My house special steak was a very small portion. I wanted a baked potato but got fries instead. No big deal, I didn’t complain. My son’s hamburger steak came with a ketchup size serving of gravy. The waiter brings a small bowl of enchilada gravy. Wth? We send it back and they bring out a small bowl of gravy. When we go to pay they charge me $5.95 for guacamole. I was thinking it was an honest mistake. When I inform the register girl that we didnt get guacamole, she says extra gravy would be like 50 cents, she calls the waiter, he says that the charge for the gravy. Almost $6 for gravy is ridiculous. I paid but will probably be my last time after being there on a regular basis at all 3 locations for years. Very disappointing. We had already thought the waiter was having an off day and didnt speak up. But the charge for guacamole was just wrong! Looking back…The fact that he didn’t hand me the receipt when he rang it up before calling the register girl to collect the money tells me he was being dishonest since the beginning. I have not been disappointed with el ElTipico until today. Watch what they charge you!!! Good bye.

The place is aesthetically appealing, great atmosphere, but that was the best part about it.
First of all the service left much to be desired. It did not seem that the restaurant was busy enough for the servers to be so inattentive, but they were very hard to catch right from the beginning, the ones who try to avoid looking at you, so you literally have to catch them.
When we finally got our food it was cold.
Room temperature at best for both enchilada plates. The burger on the kids plate was at least warm, but the fries were the only thing that was hot.
Even when the food was heated up, it was bland and tasteless.
I was very disappointed in the food and the service. We went here because someone compared their enchiladas to Jacalas. Wow, was that wrong. We had to work hard to catch someone to bring us the check, even.
Maybe we went on a bad night, but that was my experience. Good luck.

It was Saturday morning, we wanted IHOP but it was too far/expensive. We decided to go to Walmart since we didn’t know what we wanted so my husband just pulls in here. I was in love with the decorations from the moment I walked in, I didn’t know I was guna become attached lol We sat down and the waiter was super nice and he tells us “Did you want to eat here” we look at him and laugh and we’re like “Yeah we’re sitting down” and then he said “We have a buffet and we also have to order off the menu” we look at each other and we were shocked. YA’LL! This place is amazing! By far our favorite spot! The food was delicious. We literally tried everything! Pancakes, Omelettes, eggs, toast, French toast are all made to order how you want. The food is fresh and taste so good! The tortillas are homemade and hot. The beans are homemade refried beans! The huevos rancheros sauce is my favorite!! Btw I love the faucets lol Definitely give them a shot!
