Great margaritas and good food overall, though a bit overpriced for what you get. I tried the $5 bacon-wrapped shrimp and was really disappointed , it was tiny, way too salty, and honestly not worth being on the menu at all. The rest of the meal was enjoyable, but I’d definitely skip the shrimp.

My favorite Tex Mex on the planet!
My friends always know that we have to visit El Tiempo every time I come to Houston. The queso was delicious, the margaritas are killer, and you have to get the mixed fajitas!

Always hot and fresh food. The tortillas are made in the house and are delicious. You can’t go wrong here.

Service was amazing from start to finish! Maria was our server and she was absolutely wonderful — attentive, kind, and on top of everything. The shrimp tacos and fajitas were delicious and full of flavor! We also had a great conversation with Jerry, which made the experience feel even more welcoming and personal.

The churros and fried ice cream were so good — the perfect sweet ending to our meal! The tres leches cake was also good, just a little more wet than I personally prefer, but still very enjoyable.

Overall, the food, atmosphere, and service were beyond my expectations. Even my daughter — who never compliments anyone — went out of her way to tell Maria how nice she was and how great the service was. That says a lot!

We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place!

Consistently great Tex Mex. Family owned local chain.

Great for large groups and family gatherings. Large open venue can be loud, but great for large parties.

Service is fast and friendly. On the spot for drink and chip refills.

All the food is flavorful and executed consistently well. The dishes are large and priced in line with mid tier TexMex for decent value.

Decent sized parking lot that gets full at peak and there’s some street parking for overflow.

Not really knocking the place but it’s hard to continue giving our support. We usually get the (2) large tacos al carbon (then it was $22, i think) and in the hey day, it was packed, you could make 2 meals from one dish. It’s been a steady decline ever since. So I just had to ask last night about how much goes in it now. Was told just 3oz of meat (hoping that’s per taco) and price now is about $36 for that plate. Plating is way different too, would come on colorful large plates and seemingly cover every bit of it with a big scoop of rice. Now it’s on a smaller white plate, smaller scoop of rice, fajitas are arranged perpendicular to the plate so it hangs off both ends (giving the illusion) that it’s larger, it is not. Kitchen manager did offer more meat for the tacos but did say next time it’ll be the standard 3oz. What I don’t get is that inside skirt is cheap to buy and can still make a helluva profit at $36/plate, so why not just put more meat in each taco and make it more of a value? I’d genuinely want to know what cut they’re using for only 3oz being served. While we’re at it, get bigger baskets of chips, a party of 8 and 2 small baskets of chips go way to fast and are often waiting for a refill.

El Tiempo ROCKS! And the frozen, margaritas that is, are amazing and strong. We have been many times and love it. I took a work team and had a wonderful experience. Erica was the best and took our picture with expert skills. We had guests who had not been to Texas and wanted to try authentic TexMex. No question about taking them to El Tiempo!!!!
