I saw the very mixed reviews on El Tenampa and wanted to try for myself. Unfortunately, here I am with a mixed review. Overall the experience was good, the chilaquiles were spicy but incredibly delicious, the place is small but cozy. However, we also ordered the gorditas and those were incredibly greasy. I’m Mexican, I know gorditas are not exactly healthy food, but ours were soaked in oil. Having said that, I will definitely go back to try other menu items because the variety is great and the seasoning is on point!

I’ve been to so many Mexican restaurants, I’ve eaten SO MANY tacos in my life but this place right here took me all the way back to LA in the 80s type of Mexican food quality. I tried a variety of their tacos and once I started eating them I just couldn’t stop! My fave was the birria taco I must’ve eaten 5 of those alone a simple must have. Lovely service there, I’ve found my spot for the summer ☀️

There’s nothing I have not tried from this restaurant that’s ever left me upset. The food here is the best. There’s no other Mexican restaurant I recommend in Plainfield that tops this location. I’ve introduced several friends here and they always go back. The tacos, tortas de milanesa (breaded chicken), chicken flautas, tosatadas de tinga, the sopes and the horchata are my top favorites.
At times, they do run out of items because of the demand and they are a small restaurant so they only have about 4-5 tables. I would love to see them expand again! The customer service is honestly great. It’s always women running the register and doing the cooking, I truly respect and admire that. I hope they gain more recognition and continue to grow.
