El Taco Loco: Authentic Tacos Burritos in Wickenburg, AZ
Reviews
Limited options for fast casual in Wickenburg so we tried here. The tacos were great. Street tacos were a healthy size, the taco loco even bigger. Hubs got a Gordita which he liked alright. The salsa bar was a great variety and the chips were good.
I know what you’re thinking – you’re on the road to or from Vegas and you need to get a new drink and a bite to eat. Yes, Subway and McDonald’s are extremely close and you could eat that in the car and save some time. However, I strongly encourage you to try El Taco Loco instead. Service time was very quick – probably not much longer (or even faster) than how long it would take you to order and get your order at a fast food shop. Take a minute to eat it in house instead of on the road (unless you’re getting a burrito). It’s worth the few extra minutes to taste something you can’t get anywhere else in the world!
Essentially a taco and burrito shop with a few platter meals if you like rice and beans similar to the rice and beans you can get in basically any other Mexican restaurant in the world. These aren’t the stars of the show. The tacos are. Carne asada was a bit dry but very flavorful. Cabeza was a bit moist but delicious. And the al pastor didn’t have the strong pineapple flavor I think it should but it was still very good. Each served on a single corn tortilla (instead of two as is common many places) but each tortilla was adequate to handle the filling without dissolving. Diced onions and cilantro are standard along with a lime slice.
They also have a salsa bar with 4-5 different salsa options. Nothing terribly painful in terms of spice but a variety of flavors. No pico de gallo. Roasted as well as plain whole jalapenos for some extra bite and serve-yourself tortilla chips.
Drinks are all bottled and the selection is rather slim. Service is minimal – place your order and they call you to come and pick it up. I didn’t see or hear any of the staff except for those two moments. A small shop but enough room for at least 20-25 customers all at once. Clean & basic.
Definitely worth an extra 5-10 minutes to have something more tasty (if perhaps not more memorable) than a sub sandwich or a hamburger.
