Stopped into El Sereno after a year-long search for a solid Mexican spot in the area, and I can officially say the search is over. The margaritas were good and strong — no complaints there! Portion sizes are no joke. My wife ordered the Coca-Cola pulled chicken burrito and it was outstanding. Huge, packed with flavor, and easily three meals worth of food. I went with the tongue tacos which were authentic, tender, and done right. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. Friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere sealed the deal. We’ll absolutely be back.

This restaurant has a very nicely balanced menu. The bar and eating areas are spotless. It is very child friendly and welcoming. Let’s talk about the food. The food was well prepared hot temperature wise when it was served and very fresh. Don’t make a mistake and miss this place! You will not be disappointed.

Just moved to the area and needed a good go-to Mexican restaurant. This place definitely takes the cake. Food was outstanding for my whole family. Very pleasantly surprised that everyone enjoyed their food and even the rice and beans were amazing. My family will be coming back soon and will continue to do so. The prices are a little high but the flavor and quality make it worth it. 10/10

The food was good. The meat in the tacos was a little dry. The Queso Fundido had solidified when it arrived, so it is not a to go order item. It still tasted great once reheated. I wish they would’ve provided more salsa in the actual bag. otherwise, it was good.

We were so sad when 3 amigo closed, but el Sureno is the perfect substitute. Delicious margaritas, tacos, burritos, etc. Very highly recommended

First off the outdoor seeting is wonderfully done. The service here is top notch it was not so long after we ordered the food that it was brought out to us and boy was it amazing. The drinks we had were wonderfully made not overly fruity or strong. If your in the area and enjoy Mexican this place is worth a stop.

Have been driving by this place almost daily on my way to work and finally decided to stop in and so glad I did. Surprised there are not many reviews yet! The margaritas were pretty good, wish they had a few more flavors to choose from though like “jalapeño margarita”??? I had the burrito Suezo and it was great, and very large. I got just the burrito and passed on the beans and rice, and it was HUGE, and still had half of it left over. My husband got the 4 tacos and tried the Mexican sausage, coca-cola chicken, and rib eye. Felt the coca-cola was by far the best, I’ve heard a lot about coca-cola chicken but never tried it, definitely had a depth of flavor! The service was great, staff were at our table often asking if we needed anything. Ambiance was also nice, I look forward to visiting when it’s warmer so we can sit outside on the patio! Kudos to this place, they’re doing great! (Just hoping to step up the margarita game a little!)

This was the first time at El Soreño after living in Antioch for fifteen years. Since it was crowded and noisy, we asked to sit out on the deck, which was empty and quite. We weren’t out there very long before our waitress came out. We ordered a side of guacamole and it was brought out very quickly, with a half a basket of corn chips. We got our drinks very quickly and dinner was ordered at that time. Since my wife is allergic to dairy and gluten she asked for no cheese or dairy product. I even said to the waitress, make sure they don’t sprinkle cheese on the refried beans.
The guacamole was fresh, but with no seasoning added, therefore it was bland.
When our taco dinners came out my wife’s plate had cheese sprinkled over the top of the beans. What can one do other than ask twice to not put cheese on her plate? There where two mistakes here, one by the kitchen and one by the waitress for bring out the plate. I ordered the ribeye tacos which were ok, just not very seasoned at all and no cilantro, onions or cheese on my tacos. My wife’s tacos were piled high with lettuce onions and cilantro. The refried beans were about as bland as one could possibly have, like right out of the can.
We did not see any Hispanic customers, so my thinking is they are playing to the uneducated people from the area. In other words the food is not authentic Mexican cooking.
We will try this restaurant again and if it is improved I will change this review. By the way a manager did come over and profusely apologize for the error. She offered a new plate, drinks, dessert, but we said it was not necessary. They removed the charge for my wife’s tacos and brought a flan dessert to take home. To my delighted surprise the Flan was absolutely perfect.
