Coming in for lunch, I made my order for their El Sazon R.D. specialty sandwich with baked chicken (you could also do with pernil if you want) which was $14 and their homemade iced tea at $5. Took a little bit of time, but not too long which I appreciate them taking their time and the result spoke for itself. The sandwich, served on a hero, is packed full of flavor with fried salami, sweet plantain, fried cheese, pickled onions, chimi sauce, and the baked chicken that really the only thing I didn’t feel much of were the onions but everything else was great and very filling. The plantain was just right, the salami at the center is a good choice, the cheese was good, the pieces of chicken were nice and the sauce had a good flavor to it. They cut the hero in two and also provide hot sauce and ketchup on the side if you need it but honestly they should look into providing extra chimi sauce. I can definitely tell that the pernil would be even more filling and I think it does justify the price given all the ingredients and given I went to Brooklyn recently to try a Tres Golpes sandwich that was smaller and a bit more expensive, you definitely get good value here at El Sazon. The iced tea was good but a little more than I would like. Perhaps a thought would be to keep the current size but also offer a smaller size at a lower price for all the drinks.
Overall, a solid first trip to El Sazon that I will be back to try out their mofongos next and maybe even that award winning smashburger.
I ordered their double smash burger and was pretty impressed. The meat was nicely seasoned and the buns were soft as air. The pickles nicely balanced the oily textures of cheese and meat.
Very friendly service and pretty fast too.
the place is a tiny hole in the wall, no frills, but great food, great prices, and friendly staff.
I also tried the Chimi Empanada, filled with ground beef, peppers, mozzarella cheese, and onions. The flavors were great, savory with a nice blend of texture, though I do wish it had been a bit larger.
To drink, I had their passion fruit juice. It was refreshing, but I found the flavor a bit lighter than I expected; I would have preferred it to be more intense.
Overall, I’d rate my experience an 8.4 out of 10. The food was tasty, fresh, and satisfying, and I’d definitely come back to try more from the menu.
Had the El Sazon Fries and it’s definitely something you share. Wondering if they would substitute the salami for pernil if asked.
Will be back for their other items though!
