It was not a coincidence that Salvadorian sisters Rosie & Iby are at the forefront of the new restaurant at Taquería El Pollo in Sunnyvale now operating under a new name: El Sabor de Mercedes. They grew up in the restaurant industry in Chalatenango, El Salvador at their Mother, Mercedes Cardoza-Guardado’s restaurant called “El Sabor Chalateco”. “That name was already taken in Santa Clara County, so we opted for El Sabor de Mercedes in honor of our Mother.”, says Rosie Guardado. When partner Alberto Sánchez who was then owner of Taquería El Pollo in Sunnyvale invited them to join him in the venture and add their delicious Salvadoran dishes to the menu.

The food here is great. The super taco with the handmade tortillas was so good. The steak was my favorite..the shrimp was good as well .just not as good. Both the salsas were really good. It was a bit tough ordering and I wasn’t welcomed right away. But the guy who helped me was patient with all my questions and thoughtful when packing my order to go.

A nice Salvadoran restaurant in Sunnyvale. The decor was unpretentious but the food was surprisingly homey and tasty. The pollo guisado chicken stew was a pleasant surprise (we never had this dish before and didn’t know what to expect). Their corn tortillas were much thicker than Mexican ones. The pupusas were very delicious as well. The plates were a bit pricey (over $20 for a lunch). Serving staff were sweet and friendly. We would come back again to try the big Salvadoran plate that has everything Salvadoran and is enough for 2-3 people.

Authentic! The food is delicious and very authentic. They offer both authentic mexican and Salvadoran dishes. And even tho the dished may be called the same the Salvadoran and Mexican version of each dish differ from the rice and beans to the tortillas. What I love is that it is not a fusion restaurant each dish Is true to its native style and flavors! The wait for food might take a while but not too much, just know that I will be fresh made to order!

Found this gem in Sunnyvale. A super tasty home-style meal with legit corn tortillas (not those mass produced ones).
I still love a good taco truck, but when you want to sit down and enjoy a meal like grandma makes, this is the place to go.
Highly recommend the chicken plate!

First time here, I ordered the chicken enchilada plate (green chili) and it came with rice and beans. I also ordered two pupusas, one bean and one zucchini and cheese. It comes with a flavored cabbage you put on top with a red sauce. I also ordered a tamarindo Jarrito (tamarind soda). I didn’t wait long. Food and service was exceptional! The flavors are so homely! This place is now added to my list of favorites. Parking is located in the back of the restaurant.

Came here on a Friday late afternoon to pick up dinner to go with my husband, this was our first time and we were not disappointed! We ordered a couple of things to try but we were pleasantly surprised with the pasteles de pollo and yuca frita con pescaditos~ we received them hot and devoured one each on the way home.

Service was great—we had some ordering troubles at the counter but the ladies quickly assisted and made sure we got our orders correctly. It took about 20~ mins for the food to be completed (for 4 items) so if you plan to order for a family or its super busy it may take longer.

Will definitely return for more food!

This is the best Pupusería we’ve found in the area. My family has been coming here for years, and honestly, they are the best I’ve had in the Bay Area. I’m not quite sure what the secret sauce is, but every filling I’ve tried from this place has been fantastic. My favorite is their Chorizo Pupusas .
