I had not eaten at El Rodeo in quite a long time. The margaritas were on special and our awesome server talked me into one- I got mine blended. I ordered shrimp tacos and they came with cheese sauce on the side and a cup of rice. It was all delicious. Our server was fun to joke around with and checked on us just the right amount of times. Great experience.

My personal opinion, BEST Mexican restaurant in Des Moines. The staff, always awesome start to finish. The food is consistently great (hot and excellent flavor). Love the birthday singing when people come in to celebrate their big day as well. And last, but not least. The margaritas are second to none (guaranteed to get your monies worth every time). Not a bad dish on the menu!!!

They weren’t busy when we arrived and yet we had to wait several minutes to even get anyone’s attention. After being seated it took forever for someone to take our order. We had a flag someone down to get a refill on the drinks. One gets the distinct impression that the employees are not enthusiastic about doing a credible job. As for the food, it was okay but certainly nothing that would put it above any other Mexican food place with far better service

Extremely Disappointed – Used to Be My Favorite Spot
I’ve been coming to El Rodro since they first opened, but sadly, things have really gone downhill. Today’s visit was the final straw. I placed a simple to-go order and still had a terrible experience.
First off, the meat smelled like dog food—no exaggeration. It looked off-color and nothing like it used to. It was honestly scary to eat. The rest of the food was just as bad—looked and tasted awful. To make things worse, I was charged extra for something I wasn’t told about, and they forgot my drink.
When I tried to call and speak to a manager, they hung up on me multiple times—I hadn’t even said what I was calling about yet. Finally, I called from a different number and they picked up. The woman I spoke to passed me to a man who wasn’t a manager and told me to “call back when a manager is in.” Seriously?
The customer service was unacceptable, and I’m so disappointed because this used to be one of my go-to places. I don’t know what’s changed behind the scenes, but unless they turn things around, I won’t be coming back.

Really great salsas… Ask for the spicy if you’re ready to sweat. chips were served warm. Jalapenos toreados are excellent and $1.99. The fajitas are a huge serving with lots of peppers and tomatoes. Not too many onions like others tend to favor. Lots of shrimp in the fajitas jalisco. Flour tortillas are 3 per order and nothing special. Thick but soft. Not grilled and thin, served piping hot like at some others. I’m going to start noting the tortillas around town. Some are really fresh and grilled fresh. Here at el rodeo the star is the corn tortilla. Served piping hot, strong and held together well but not too thick. Served 5 per order. We had excellent service. June 2017.
