Lucky for us the steakhouse next door stopped serving. We went down the street to El Rio and were so happy we did. We lived almost 2 years in Mexico and it felt like home to us! Fantastic food, clean, amazing service. Other restaurants in the area could take lessons from these kind owners. We can’t wait to return!

In the local area visiting family and was taken here for dinner. Being from Chicago, I was skeptical about this place being authentic, as Chicago has incredible Mexican restaurants. First off the ambiance is great. The interior decoration and lighting worked very well and had a San Antonio vibe about it. The service was great. We were seated quickly and the wait staff was friendly and professional. I can’t lie. I have had better Mexican food, but I wasn’t disappointed in my meal. I had pretty nice portions and every one enjoyed what they ordered. I’d recommend the place to any looking for a good Mexican meal.

This place is great! Such a friendly staff. Every time we go we have a crowd but they always treat us like royalty. And the food is excellent! A bit more than we usually pay, but not excessive. Great experience overall.

About a month ago I walked in the door and the Cook and the waitress were in a chair in plain view of anyone walking in the door. They were wrapped up looking like they were trying to moleste each other. I waited for almost 10 minutes before they knew I was there. The waitress finally got up and I told her I wanted a table for one. She seated me and brought me a menu then walked off and came back about 5 minutes later. I was the ONLY person in the dining area. She took my order and I told her I wanted a glass of sweet tea and the shrimp chima changa. When she brought my order she forgot the silverware and napkin and sweet tea. She brought the tea but still no silverware or napkin. I had to ask for them again. When she finally brought them she just dropped them on the table and walked off. She undoubtedly was in a hurry to resume her romantic activities and did not come back to ask if I needed anything else. From what I could see of the kitchen area when I walked in it did not appear to be very clean. The dining area was dimly lit and the light bulb nearest my table was burned out. The waitress finally took a break from her romantic adventures and I paid my check and regretted that I had wasted my money on the meal. It was not good at all. I will never return to this place ever again and I am telling everyone I know to avoid the El Rio. The city or county should do an unannounced inspection and close the place down until they can manage it in a respectful manner.
