I came in with a group of 5 people and it was all our first time visiting. The restaurant has a small-but-mighty seating arrangement. To my surprise, the lovely lady and gentleman working were happy to accommodate our larger group. I’m very thankful they did! The food was incredible – fresh, hot and undeniably authentic. I loved the young man’s enthusiasm for telling us all about authentic Mexican food. I ordered tostadas with potato and chorizo. It’s a combination that is tasty and unique. This restaurant’s passion and vision show in all aspects of their service and presentation. Undoubtedly, they are a gem in Hyde Park. I can’t wait to come back!

I read good reviews about El Rey and was a little tempered in my expectations given that, it seems like, reviews are sometimes inflated. Right away though I was impressed by the specials board which offered dishes that I was not used to seeing on your typical Mexican restaurant menu. The counter service was warm and friendly and I decided to get the red mole enchiladas. I could tell that this mole was made in house and it was one of three moles offered on the menu. I really enjoyed this dish and wouldn’t hesitate to get it again, though am excited to try other dishes on the menu. I especially enjoyed the Champurrado which is a traditional lightly sweet drink made with corn and chocolate. The interior was cute and meticulously clean. I think there are 5 tables.

Traveled to the Hudson Valley and went to the Vanderbilt mansion and looked for something to eat nearby while we waited for a scheduled tour of the mansion. THE el Rey Mexican Eatery popped up and had 4.9 stars and was 1 mile away. We were extremely happy we went! Atmostphere was very clean and welcoming. Amazing staff and the food was authentic, homemade, and so delicious! Their homemade guacamole and red smoked pepper hot sauce was , the right amount of building heat, we like spicy and it had so much depth of flavor and the right amount of smokiness! We got the Nachos Del Ray and they were the best nachos we’ve ever had including the homemade tortilla chips! The green sauce they bring out was good too and had a hint of cilantro and coolness to it which tamed down the very growing hot sauce heat since we had drizzled it on everything! We also got the fried quesadillas and a burrito! Everything was amazing! Next time we visit Hyde Park we will be back! So good and I love supporting small businesses that jabe quality food with friendly owners ♡

Absolutely blown away by how good this food is! We had the esquite (so rich, creamy, and unctuous) the chorizo sopes (amazing tortillas, and enchiladas rojas (holy cow that mole red sauce was out of this world delicious) So good we will likely go back a second time before we leave town. Do not sleep on this food!!!

Stopped in the other evening based on a friends recommendation and I am so glad I did. I have been looking for an authentic home cooked Mexican spot for a long time and El Rey was everything I could have hoped for. My visit was on a Wednesday so I was lucky enough to order their Birria special which was to die for. The staff were very friendly and you could tell the truly were passionate about the food they create. Already looking forward to stopping in again to try more dishes.

It’s a lovely small place in the tiny village of Hyde Park. The owners are from Oaxaca and the food is more Oaxaca than Tex mex. It’s really good. The people are so sweet. Ear here.

The menu offered much more than standard Mexican fare. The food tasted like Moma was in the kitchen and doing the cooking. They offer you a wonderful departure the usual restaurant menu. The atmosphere is humble and clean. Everything else exceeds expectation. The staff is friendly and attentive. The prices are very fair.
