We had totally amazing experience. The food was delicious. All three of us handled half a baby goat. The appetizer perfectly balanced the meal. Michelada was a nice addition on a drink menu – I tried it first time and I liked it.
This restaurant has a great customer service, starting from the moment you step inside. Take an elevator to the second floor or walk up the stairs with the photos on the walls. Enjoy the decoration interior while indulging in delicious food. Family friendly, access for handicapped, English and Spanish menu options…

Highly recommend to visit this restaurant when in Monterrey, Mexico.

Great food. The cabrito was delicious. They offer other foods if you dont want to try the cabrito. The arrachera was a bit dry.
You go here as a safe pick and for the experience.
Good prompt service

A dining experience at El Rey de Cabrito is not just a meal; it’s a non-negotiable part of any trip to Monterrey. This is a culinary institution that you simply must visit for a taste of authentic Nuevo León tradition.
While it is a little expensive, the quality and experience make it completely worth it. The famous cabrito (slow-roasted kid goat) is smoky, tender, and the reason for the name, but for me, the side dishes are the true hidden gem.
The frijoles con veneno (beans with “poison”) alone are worth the trip. These are not just refried beans—they are rich, creamy, and topped with a glorious, reduced red chile and pork sauce. They are addictively flavorful and the perfect complement to the savory cabrito. Come here for the main event, but stay for the legendary sides.

Everything was delicious, but it was a bit more expansive than I wanted and more food than I could eat by myself. Still glad I got to try goat from one of the best places in Monterry.

Is not what it used to be, living now on their fame – will try other places now. Service now is terrible, plenty of servers, uniquely unorganized. Food taste good, but cabrito portions have more bone than meat, feels like a scam. Atmosphere is very nice, too bad on the service and food experience.

This review is long overdue! I’ve been dreaming of this place for over a decade. El Rey del Cabrito in Monterrey is simply legendary. It’s more than a restaurant; it’s a pilgrimage for anyone who loves good food. I finally made it back and it was even better than I remembered. The cabrito was perfection—tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. The atmosphere is vibrant and feels like a party. My only regret? Not being able to eat more. Can’t wait to be back in another 10 years… or maybe I’ll make it sooner this time! A must-visit.

Iconic restaurant in Monterrey. 3 locations in town, this is the location located just south of Barrio Antiguo and the MacroPlaza.
The atmosphere is very unique. Mosaic tiles and glass chandeliers grace the interior along with taxidermy animals like lions, deer, and bison.
Service is great. Everyone is very attentive and informative to the guests needs. Servers came by with suggestions and asked if the party needed more refreshments. They were able to explain all the different cuts in Cabrito (young goat). They also have other meats like sirloin, ribeye, fajita. They have a great appetizer menu with many options. The menu prides itself on having Northern Mexico/Monterrey cuisines.
The food has great overall. Chips and Salsa were given as soon as we sat. Salsas were spicy and flavorful. 5/5. The totopos or chips, were corn tortillas baked over charcoal. The ones we were given were passed itself freshness unfortunately. 1/5. We were given Frijoles Venenos, Beans with Pork Mole. 3/5. Purchased frijoles charros, 4/5. We purchased a mixed platter of Arrachera (steak fajita) and cabrito, along with grilled onions, tortillas and choice of potatoes or steamed veggies. This was our party’s first time eating Cabrito. 4/5. Depending on the cut you receive, flavors vary. Biggest concern going in was if Cabrito was going to have a “gamey” taste but it doesn’t. Texture reminded me of chicken with a hint of barbacoa. The Arrachera though. 20/5! The best steak fajitas I’ve ever ate. So flavorful. Easy to eat. Cooked to perfection.
For dessert they brought out a dessert platter with 8 different desserts. We went for the cornbread cake.10/5! Delicious. Came out warm with pecans and cajeta drizzled. Best cornbread cake I’ve ever eaten. Definitely will come back for the Arrachera and desserts.
Total cost with Tip for 3 people, including 2 cokes and 5 Micheladas was $110. Amazing for the experience and food we ate.

Thought it would be the best cabrito in all of Monterrey only to find that the food is the last think in their mind. The machito was loaded with fat that make the taste very bad, nad the cabrito had little to no flavor. The name says rey “king”, Del cabrito but I would not recommend and I certainly won’t visit again.
