We stayed at the Historic El Rancho Hotel in Gallop NM and there is a restaurant attached to the hotel, but not related business wise.

Since we were staying at the hotel, for convenience we had three meals there. Afterwards we were thinking one was too many.

For lunch, my wife had French toast. She said it was pretty good. I had their special, Santa Fe Crunch egg salad Sandwich. Cute but bland. Reminded me of elementary school when I’d put my potato chips in my sandwich. In this case it was an unseasoned scrambled egg with Frito corn chips in it.

For dinner my wife chose a Turquoise & Silver Margarita. It had the usual in it, but using Blue Curacao, orange liquor, and lime. Not a good mix so she sent it back and had it replaced with a house margarita. I ordered the three-taco dinner with two beef tacos and one chicken taco The beef tacos were pretty decent, but the chicken was cold and dried out. The rice was dry, and the beans were bland. We had the churros with vanilla ice cream They got that one right.

Breakfast … service was very slow (as were the other two meals) and the food was nothing to write home about.

The Hotel itself was fun and included a great historic tour. The rooms were nice. Ours had a veranda which was fun when the thunderstorm rolled in. And the bathrooms … let’s just very small.

The food could have used a little bit of salt, after adding salt everything tasted really good. The salsa’s where very good. The red a little more spicy than the green but were both tasty… Service was great, atmosphere was amazing and everything the place had to offer was beautiful. Awesome gift shop with suvanieers to take home with you..

Meh food. Would not recommend. Asked for mid-well burger and it was mid-rare (which the temperature I cook to at home so it was edible) and lacked flavor. Trio chip sampler was gross. The queso was cold and lumpy, guacamole was fake and flavorless, salsa started with ketchup flavor and ended on bad chilis. Shrimp and pasta was flavorless (ok so we’re a long way from the ocean, I get it). But seasoning is available just not utilized. The apple crisp dessert was more crisp than apple. The crisp was warm at best, should have been hot. Churros were good, maybe store bought.

History, old Hollywood glamour, and the trinkets topped with sumptuous food, generous drinks and delightful service – what’s not to line about this Route66 pit stop at the Continental Divide !

PS. Don’t miss the secret room !

The El Rancho hotel and restaurant is beautiful and really stands out in Gallup. The chicken enchiladas were not exploding with flavor. Ok, they were bland. They were stuffed with plenty of moist chicken. Unfortunately, that chicken was never introduced to seasoning. The beans were likewise bland. However, the rice was well seasoned.

While staying at El Rancho Hotel we enjoyed dinner and drinks here. It’s large and very convenient, just down a hallway from the lobby.
We were seated quickly, but service was slow. The waitresses bussing their tables, which took their attention away from the customers. Perhaps they were short staffed that night. Anyhow, the food was delicious and worth waiting for. Hot and tasty! The drinks were good.

The omelet is excellent—highly recommended. The sausage is a bit lacking in flavor, so keep that in mind. The bacon was cooked to a nice, appropriate level.

Went and shopped the native art store they have and wondered around the property. Seems like it would be a great place to take family.

Loved the Route 66 historic old western charm, and stories of the western movie stars from the 30′ and 40’s who stayed there. Each room is named after a star who stayed in that room at some time. Be sure to take a few moments to speak with the docent in the lobby in the evenings for many more interesting
accounts about the stars and hotel.
All of the staff were very accommodating and pleasant. Rooms were clean and acceptable. A nice stay altogether.
