I visited a few Mexican spots before landing at El Potro Mexican Restaurant in Lake City, and I’m so glad I did.
From the moment I walked in, Ms. Irma (the hostess on duty) took care of me. She made sure I understood what was happening, walked me through different options, and honestly… she heard what I was trying to say even when I didn’t fully know what to ask for. I knew what I needed, but I didn’t have all the “catering language,” and she helped me put it together into a package that was perfect.
The restaurant itself was nicely renovated, very clean, and had a smooth flow, and she even invited me to bring my team in, Irma said she’d love to host my party of 60.
What really sealed it for me was her professionalism. She gave me a clean, easy-to-read quote, with everything clearly laid out. And even though they don’t normally offer delivery, she made an exception and made it happen, and that made the entire order feel effortless.
And let’s talk about the food: it was an absolute hit. My team loved it. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and top-tier, great food and great service.
If you’re ever in Lake City, Florida, and you want amazing Mexican food, or you need catering done the right way, El Potro is the spot.

This was well worth the money. For the price they do great on portions. The food was flavorful, hot, and the food came quick. Overall, there wasn’t something we didn’t like. We came in on a Sunday night and there really was not that many people there. They portion the chips small that they give you which is fine so then you don’t waste anything. I was surprised with how many different things they offered on the menu.
I had the shrimp fajitas and we also did the combo meal. The combo meal definitely was cheaper and came with way more food.
Their sign does say buffet which we thought was odd but there was no buffet so don’t let that be a determine factor for coming here.

Made a last minute decision for lunch while passing through Lake City. The carnitas were cooked very well, they were tender and flavorful. The fajitas were plentiful and cooked well. The employees were very accommodating and checked on us often. Great little spot to stop for lunch.
