This is a “Yes, BUT” review. The food is great, the atmosphere feels casual and perfect for a relaxing dinner with family, friends, and loved ones. The service has usually been top notch, BUT a server named Alex has given us multiple poor experiences. I recommend you go, just make sure to ask for their names and if you get Alex, ask for a different server.
For context, my family and I have been going for the last 10 years, usually about once a month, and I will say it’s always been a 11/10 for me. Great food and surprisingly fast service (we’ve gotten food within 10 minutes of sitting down) This place would be (and for the most part still is) the first recommendation I would make when it comes to Mexican food. However, since Alex has started and getting him a few times over the last several months, we’ve had uniquely poor experiences.
To list his problems, Alex has:
– gotten at least some part of our order wrong each time, with the latest getting two out of two orders wrong. If he is having difficulties understanding, I wish he would just ask clarifying questions as needed. The other staff get it right every time and will ask as needed.
– will walk past us, ignoring when we need refils. If this weren’t so different from every other server there I may not have noticed, but Alex sticks out like a sore thumb. I don’t mind grabbing attention during a busy period, but I don’t like feeling ignored when the following is happening…
– will wait at the host stand chatting up other servers as they pass by. While he often is on his phone, this latest time I’ve also seen him fold the same cloth 5 times in a row (throwing it back on the stand then refolding it.) While I don’t expect him to be moving around at ALL times and am glad for staff to take breathers, it’s rough when I’m sitting with an empty cup waiting for a refil or to place our order.
Overall, a decade of great service outweighs one bad apple, so I am sticking with the 5 stars for now – but I really hope Alex can either get more training or help out at El Porton in a different role, because right now he is making a stain on an otherwise perfect experience.

The service was good butterfly foods seemed a little bit off. The coke was watered down weak or maybe the ice had melted. The taco seemed warmed over or something. It’s usually very good maybe I was just a little bit off. I still recommend eating there edit….Audio picked up butterfly. Should have been “but the”. There is no butterfly food.

Well very disappointed with their tostada shell. The shell is so thin you can’t eat it like a tostada since it gets soggy when your plate is handed to you. Other than that the food is good as well as their spicy salsa (I really believe the shells are processed and not made at the restaurant like i was told)

Margaritas lacking liquor….had a large Texas margarita and had no buzz… I’m a seasoned margarita consumer and after having a large Texas margarita I had no buzz… had a second large Texas margarita and I had to add shots of tequila to make up for the lack of fiesta in my glass. And also to mention I had an empty stomach on top. Now, let’s talk about the wondrous beef burrito that was saltier than a salt block…..the waiter totally understood and agreed about the ground beef burrito and he was very sweet and understanding
