Social Profile:

While some things have changed over the last few decades, El Pollo Loco’s delivery of fresh, authentic food has not. Everything starts with whole chickens that are slowly marinated in a special recipe of herbs, spices, fruit juices and garlic. The chicken is then expertly fire-grilled to perfection the authentic way – on our signature open-flame grills – then hand cut into your favorite Mexican entrees. We put that same dedication and care into our handmade guacamole, salsas and dressings every day. At El Pollo Loco in Big Bear Lake,CA, we believe that when real food meets real fire the result is great taste that will keep you coming back again and again.

Fast-food chain outpost known for Mexican classics made with fire-grilled chicken.

I ordered 2 mexican cesar salads and discovered pieces of lettuce that are simply unacceptable to digest. I couldn’t understand the guy attending the drive thru. Very disappointed.

Always visit the stores local to me at home. So we tried the store in Big Bear yesterday. Ordered a 3 piece chicken Legs and 2 sides of rice. At the bottom of the rice was a large piece of knotted dark hair. Looks like it was cooked into the chicken, not sure where to go with this and its disgusting. Visited this location a year ago and it seems the ownership changes or something. Even ordering was different then at home. Food service industry is tough. But realizing this after most of the meal is gone is hard to process. Clean up your act El Pollo Loco Big Bear Lake

Taco Bell has a nicer interior.
EPL Staff is friendly. But come on what a rip off .. taco bell side of beans is like 79 cents and the same size of beans here is $5.49!! Everything very overpriced to me. We could have had a nice sit down restaurant meal for the prices we paid here.

Pollo Loco Review

First Impressions:
This was my first visit to Pollo Loco, and unfortunately, it will likely be my last.

Food Quality
Disappointing Experience:
– The food was cold and tough, far from the fresh, flavorful meal I was hoping for.
– It seemed like the staff may have just chopped up leftovers to fulfill my order, rather than preparing something fresh.

Service & Atmosphere
Unwelcoming Environment:
– I arrived around 6:30 PM (they close at 8:30 PM), but it felt like the staff was already in the process of shutting down early.
– There were some smirks and inside jokes among the staff, which made me feel like an outsider rather than a valued customer.

Online Ordering Issues
Frustrating Process:
– I attempted to order online, but the system failed to process my order.
– Despite the failed order, I was charged anyway—though I was later refunded, I still had to go in and order in person, adding to the frustration.

Final Thoughts
Overall, my experience at Pollo Loco was disappointing—from the poor food quality to the unwelcoming atmosphere and ordering issues. I had hoped for a better first impression, but sadly, I don’t plan on returning.

Sept 28th I went over to El Pollo Loco, Big Bear Lake, CA. about an hour from closing time. I hadn’t been there in a few years because of issues in the past but, thought I world give it another try.
I had asked for 4 breasts (they only had 2) and a chicken crunch bowl. I had also asked for flour tortillas. Pulled up to the window, got the bag of food. Checked and there were no flour tortillas. He said they didn’t come with what I ordered. My bill was already over $30.00. I said well can I pay for the tortillas. He asked me how many and I said 4. I handed him $3.00. I think he said it was $2.60, gave me my change for the 4 flour tortillas. Handed me the bag of what I THOUGHT had the tortillas in. Once I got home, I gave my husband his chicken crunch bowl and I waited a bit to eat. Once I got into my food I see the 2 chicken breasts, the large coleslaw (bland) and 2 BAGS of salsa. NO tortillas!!! That jerk at the window knowingly ripped me off!! He knew exactly what he was doing. It was no mistake.
What am I going to do with 8 salsas and not one tortilla that I PAID for.
Don’t do what I did…..trust that they’ll give you your full order. Check every single thing in the bag but, should I really have to? Yes because you’ll get shorted on your order and might not be correct!
Also the guy working the drive thru seemed “above me.” Sorry bud, you’re above no one. Have a better attitude!!
The only good thing I can say about this place is my husband really liked the Chicken Crunch bowl. My chicken was a bit dry and small breasts. My food order was $34.98 on my card + $2.60 cash for the tortillas I didn’t get. Not worth it!
Also they need to automatically give each customer their receipt. They don’t!
Get it together Big Bear Lake El Pollo Loco!!!
Giving 2 stars for the crunch bowl.

Gotta say, as someone who cleans the plate, the pollo bowl was not good. The rice was just off in texture and the bowl overall just wasn’t good. Tortillas and Sprite were good, and if you eat it all it’s a decent value. Relatively clean interior with plenty of seating. Lots of parking space. Free wifi.

It is really disappointing come to enjoy the famous pollo loco here in Big Bear and they serve an overcooked chicken and very cold food, rice and mashed potato was very cold, I’m not the kind of person who make an scene but never come back to this place here at Big Bear and I will recommend to my friends don’t stop here while visiting.

Tried the poblano chicken wrapped quesadilla and was very surprised. Definitely tastes more like a sit down restaurant item, recommend it. Ordered a breast on the side, kinda small but very good…

Drive-thru at this location was non-stop so seems like food isn’t sitting around. Now the dining area is another story, was pretty empty and more on the dirty side. Tables were dusty and the floors were dirty. Overall you can’t go wrong with Pollo Loco.

Dirty, took 40 min to get food, didn’t come with sour cream, avocado, or tortillas (all included). Then I had to argue with the employee to give me the tortillas that we’re supposed to come with the meal. And man it is DIRTY and GROSS in this establishment. San Bernardino County Health Inspector….please help. Food was good though.

Ok place to go if you like El Pollo Loco. Dudes were super nice. Maybe play some music, repaint inside, add some new lights?
