Chili Verde was decent. FRESH SALSA. We chose patio seating to enjoy the surrounding view of mountains. Also CLEAN restrooms!

Visiting El Patrón was more than just a dining experience, it was a moment of reflection and community. This restaurant sits in the heart of Altadena, an area deeply affected by the recent fire. As you approach, the surroundings feel different: buildings gone, homes damaged, and businesses struggling to recover. The impact is visible and emotional.

The food itself was above average and comforting. I ordered the carne con chile verde, fried fish, and the carne asada plate. Each dish was well-prepared, flavorful, and satisfying. The chile verde had a rich, homestyle taste, the fried fish was crispy and well-seasoned, and the carne asada plate delivered exactly what you hope for, simple, solid, and enjoyable Mexican food.

What impressed me the most, however, was not just the food, but the spirit inside the restaurant. The servers carried themselves with confidence and warmth, and the clientele clearly showed their support for the business and the community. A banner inside read, “Altadena will rise and remain strong,” and that message truly captured the atmosphere. You could feel resilience, pride, and unity in the room.

El Patrón represents more than a place to eat, it represents perseverance and community strength. If you’re in the area, don’t just drive by. Stop in, enjoy a good meal, and support a local establishment that continues to stand strong alongside Altadena.

We went for lunch at 1:30pm on Thursday and it was nicely busy, with people still coming in after we left. This restaurant is in an area where so much around it burned down in the fire, so it’s wonderful to see people coming to this super cute Mexican restaurant with delicious food and friendly, expedient staff. Chicken Mole was bittersweet and spicy, yummy!

We wanted to support Altadena businesses so we found El Patron Mexican Food restaurant on Lake Street. The service was excellent! The food was very good. The chicken mole was a savory meal, instead of sweet. It had a good flavor. The beef soup was tasty with carrots, potatoes, cabbage and large chunks of very tender beef. The prices were reasonable.

Came here to eat on the weekend. The atmosphere is nice and gives a nice vibe.
The hostess however was not that great. She seated us in a tight spot and we had to move around because she complained about not being able to get through.
The chips and salsa they start you off with are great though. The chips were fresh and crunchy and the salsa was flavorful, and not too spicy.
The rice and beans that come with the combo plates are good. But the enchiladas rancheras I ordered came with no red sauce or green sauce which was disappointing to me.
The burritos are HUGE and according to my family, they were decent.
The fish tacos though, stay away from them. They microwave the tortillas and the fish is a tiny skinny breaded piece. My grandma and aunt were disappointed in that.
Also, they don’t serve their margaritas with tequila. They stated they only have wine and beer. The mango margarita was still good though.
Also, I gave 3 stars because I had read a review that said they found a hair in their food. WELL, A CUSTOMER ACROSS FROM US FOUND A LONG HAIR IN HER FOOD TOO SO IT KINDA RUINED THE MOOD FOR US.

Fake Mexican food, spent 24$ for 2 enchiladas and a drink which is crazy for the chieken to look like cardboard. Nastiest food I have tried, please stay away!!!! Look at the picture and you’ll see why on this supposed chicken

This restaurant in the “corner” has become Cornerstone of the New Altadena. This family owned business made a corner prosperous when business after business came in and failed. Then, they survived the worst Altadena Fire in more than a century. They survived with beautiful smiles and loving prayers.

This Altadena restaurant is cozy and serves great food. We were a party of five and had several variety of food at the table. I tried the quesadilla with carne asada and chicken mole. Both were delicious but the mole stood out. It was smoky not sweet and great! We all need to support Altadena businesses and this is one I’ll be back at.

Neighborhood restaurant with friendly services, reasonable priced. Small but very cozy interior, charming without being tacky. Server are friendly and attentive, it was a very pleasant experience for us. Street Tacos are my favorite, you cannot best the $1.75 price. Good eats!
