TL;DR: Typical, but tasty.
We stopped in after a cross country meet and were impressed by the food and service.
I ordered the Yolanda’s (3 chicken enchiladas smothered in queso and served with rice). It’s a dish I order at various restaurants, but it has a nice twist here in the form of more green peppers. A pleasant surprise.
My wife ordered El Palenque Parrilla, a veritable meat lovers plate. It was apparently delicious.

I’m a Yank in these parts. From Washington state. My experience overall, at El Palenque, near Evening Shade, AR (2.5 hours roughly south of Little Rock), was mostly positive. The wait staff who attended my table was very positive and respectful. There wasn’t hardly anyone else in the restaurant. The food was quite good for Americanized Mexican food. Beat Azteca hands down in the food department. The reason I gave a 4 star, not a 5, is the wait staff, as nice, pleasant, and respectful as they were as a whole, they seemed to have their minds on other things than their job duties. As a result they were less attentive than it seemed they could have been given the number of staff seen for more than 5 minutes on the floor, and the number of customers. If you are looking for excellent Americanized Mexican food, El Palenque is great! If atmosphere is as important to you, as it is me, not recommended.

Very friendly atmosphere. Went for one of my granddaughter L’s birthday and many didn’t know they did all that for a birthday: Put on the sombrero, sang happy birthday, pie in face and dessert with candle to be blown out! You talk about being treated very kindly, this is the place! Don’t know if all Mexican places do this but this one is very special, would probrably be one of the reasons there so packed all the time.
