El Paisano may not win any design awards — the place could use some TLC — but don’t let that fool you. I’m from Arizona and a bit of a foodie, and these tacos hit the spot. The steak could’ve used a little more char, but the toppings were fresh and the flavor was authentic.
The real stars? The sauces. The green has that perfect tomatillo tang, and the red packs serious heat with real chili flavor — not that “Midwest spicy” nonsense. ️
If you can overlook the décor, your taste buds will be very happy

Always amazing, affordable and authentic as it gets. Today we went for marinated pork, steak, cow tongue, and chicken. The sauces are delicious too! We’re from San Diego and have a hard time eating Mexican in the Midwest… tastes like home

Solid but nothing to write home about. FYI, this is just a tiny Mexican grocery that also happens to sell tacos. No tables or chairs. Order ahead, pick them up, and eat somewhere else. Anyway, this place is nothing special. It’s solid. But the taco trucks out in Ames have better tacos than this place. I’ve been all over, California probably has the best taco trucks in the country.

Best tacos in town. Great ingredients, and the flavors are spot-on with really good sauces to match. It’s a hidden gem, so make sure to call ahead to place your order – it’ll keep your wait time super quick when you arrive. Definitely not a spot to miss!

They have great food but placing orders on the phone/web is a hassle. They sometimes answer the phone and hang up. They even take it off the hook instead of answering or having a message setup that they’re closed or not taking anymore orders. Other than that best fast food tacos!

Best tacos in Dubuque hands down. If you want true, delicious and filling tacos then look no further the Al Pastor (marinated pork) is by far my favorite and go to! Slap a little green sauce on it and it’s heaven from there!

400 sqft “grocery store” with kitchen and no dining space. After walking in, host did not acknowledge me until owner ran out to grill me about taking the photos below. Fair prices but, after waiting 10 minutes for 1 burrito with nobody else there, I got burnt meat, little flavor, and overly mild salsas. As an Arizona native, this is no more authentic than Taco Bell and definitely not cleaner.

As a Mexican grocery store taco enthusiast, I don’t say this in jest, these are the best tacos I’ve ever had. I had (2) of the pastor and (1) of the lengua. Mhmmmmm! Both were cooked to perfection with a flavor that I’ll tell in detail to my across the hall neighbor in a nursing home someday. They wrap up each taco like a newborn baby leaving the hospital for the very first time. It’s an art of beauty you need to experience for yourself. Lastly, both salsas (green and red) hit all the right spots. I can’t say enough good words. Well done, El Paisano!
