What a wonderful restaurant! We’ve lived in South Mpls forever; I can’t believe it’s taken us this long to visit El Norteno. The food was great and the service was even better. It’s certainly a popular spot – tables were full & lots of people were coming in for takeout orders. I’m excited to enjoy their patio space once it warms up!

We’ve been here 4 or 5 times, my wife and I absolutely love it. Comfy and warm service from the two sisters who run it. It feels like a real passion project, a place filled with goodness. Phenomenal food.
Love this restaurant so much

There’s a reason this place has outlasted so many other restaurants in the area. Why pay $10+ for one fast food meal when you can get an authentic meal cooked from scratch for $14? Literally just a few bucks more. The patio is nice, too. Lots of greenery and kind of hidden from passersby.

When you first walk in, it feels like Covid is still going on! Looks like it’s pickup only. No seating in the restaurant (late august 2023)
But there is a wonderfully cute back patio. So many beautiful plants and flowers. Lights come on later in the evening.
Very small menu, no liquor. (Think margaritas, though she said they have wine margaritas)
One round of chips was all we got, and I think because we ordered guacamole? Not sure you get the standard free chips.
I really enjoyed the mole, though I’d have enjoyed a larger size for my appetite!
Only bummer was service was slow, but I believe she was working the floor all by herself. So can’t complain

Wonderful patio area makes you feel like you’re not even close to the busy streets. Great guac, carnitas, taco salad, and enchiladas. No tequila or hard liquor but simple selection of beer.

Excellent and authentic Mexican food. Decent prices, too. Friendly staff and a great patio. Highly recommend. A Cooper neighborhood gem!
Update 8/9/22: still the best Mexican food around, and the patio is an undiscovered gem!!

LOVE THIS PLACE!!! The Flan is to die for! It’s so delicious they sell out almost every day! The enchiladas are so good you can’t go wrong with any of the choices. The moly ones are my favorite. 10/10

This place has a nice patio and that about it. The food was good but nothing to rave about. My girlfriend and I ordered burritos. They are good sized but the flavors are lacking. The prices where good. What actually really disappointed me was the Horchata I ordered. Instead of getting Horchata I got milk with crushed ice and some cinnamon sprinkled on top. Very disappointing and kinda ruined the first impression for me. I would probably only come back if friends or family really wanted to eat here.
