Went the Friday before Valentine’s Day, this place is LOUD! The kitchen is open and you can see everything going on, including one of the cooks that ate food while cooking! (He was wearing black latex gloves that he didn’t change before touching someone else’s food).

The chips are ok – if they were a little thinner and less stale they would be better, at least they were warm. It was hard to enjoy the food with all the noise, clanking and banging of the kitchen. The refills on drinks is only limited to one which seems wrong. They could give a little bigger of a portion of toppings for the quesadilla.

If I try this place again it will be because I would like to try their guacamole from the push cart that they supposedly make in front of you. I didn’t see the lady actually make it, just saw her pushing the cart- it did look a little pricey though, that’s partly why I didn’t get it when we were there. I will try to go on a weekday evening (not Friday) to see if there is a difference in the level of noise. They really need to close off the kitchen from the rest of the restaurant. Granted the cook that ate while cooking may end up doing more than what was witnessed…..

Nice people all the way around. Friendly greeting when we walked in and were seated, and the service was friendly, fast, and attentive. Food and atmosphere were fantastic too. We stopped in on a whim after seeing a packed parking lot, we were curious as to why it was packed. We weren’t disappointed.

Clean and fun atmosphere! The service is very friendly and helpful. Everyone in our family enjoyed their food. I especially liked the freshly-made guacamole and the horchata .

There was no wait. The server was impeccable with checking on the table. My fajita burrito was mouth watering juicy flavorful chicken. My partners burrito was a little more on the dry side, but he got a chicken plant base burrito. He said it was good but he wouldn’t get it again. His corona margarita was his favorite part of dinner. I appreciated that they gave us two types of salsa, a medium heat and mild. The chips came out warm as well. Overall, it was fantastic dinner experience.

Went to El Molcajete for dinner with my husband and kids and we were sat- waited over 25 minutes for drinks. Our food and appetizers all arrived before our drinks. Our drinks were never refilled during our meal and the server never checked to see if we needed anything else. After sitting there for quite some time my husband had to go to the host stand to ask for our bill. Then we were charged for margaritas that we did not have. The food was good but the service was terrible.

I’m a big fan of mole, but I hadn’t found a good spot in the metro yet for it. Until we came to El Molcajete! I got the enmoladas with steak and it was the best mole dish I’ve ever had. Just enough for me to get 2 meals out of it, and it was just as good leftover for lunch the next day. 100% worth the 20min drive to Ankeny! Fresh guacamole was also worth ordering.

Best Mexican food in town. You won’t find anything on the menu that you won’t like. Service is amazing, always checking on us to make sure we have everything we need. The food is amazing, we go there 2 to 3 times a week for amazing food and margaritas. They make us feel like family here and will forever be our choice to fill our belly’s and try to forget our hard day a work.

My wife and I happened apon this restaurant for lunch today. What a gem! The service was great and friendly. The restaurant is clean and bright. There is an outdoor eating area for beautiful fall weather. And the food was magnificent! We started by adding a bowl of queso blanco to go with the chips and salsa. One of the two salsas provided had a gentle smokey flavor and I fell in love. Wife ordered the enchilada lunch special and I ordered the steak street tacos special. Both were excellent. I couldn’t stop commenting on how good it was. Prices were fair and service was quick. Wait Staff was on top of their game and the atmosphere was great. I’m excited to go back and try other things. As we were leaving they were making fresh guacamole right at the table of one of the customers. That sounds awesome!

An outstanding restaurant, elite Mexican food prepared well in a great overall environment. Loved the customer service, expansive menu had lots of options. Enjoyed Pollo Carnitas and my better half loved her Shrimp Fajitas. Great guacamole and salsa options.
