Tucked away in the heart of Isla Mujeres, El Mexicano is a gem that perfectly blends local charm with thoughtful dining. The restaurant’s secret garden out back is a highlight—lush, tranquil, and surprisingly peaceful, it feels worlds away from the bustle of the island. The setting alone makes it worth a visit.
The food was excellent, with a dedicated vegetarian menu that shows real care and creativity. Every dish was fresh, beautifully presented, and seasoned to perfection. Drink specials were another pleasant surprise—two margaritas for 250 pesos, and both were delicious.
Service was warm and personal; our waitress, Sophia, made us feel right at home. Between the atmosphere, the quality of the food, and the friendly service, El Mexicano easily stands out as one of the best dining experiences on Isla Mujeres. Highly recommended!

We stopped for a drink while wandering around during an evening on our trip to Isla Mujeres. This place is a pretty cute restaurant and the food looked amazing. Unfortunately, we already had eaten, we will have to try and come back another time. We all ordered an espresso martini and were glad we did. They were delicious and really served them in a unique way. They lit a piece of cinnamon and placed it on each glass. It really added to the experience with the wonderful aromatic and made it feel like a special occasion since it was around Christmas.

We’ve been on Isla Mujeres for a week. Best blended strawberry margarita on the island. Food was flavorful, and DELICIOUS. I’ve ordered the mixed Los Molcajetes bowl twice. 10/10 recommend. Aldo was kind and attentive with the service. Beautiful garden room in the back!

An Incredible Dining Experience at El Mexicano.
El Mexicano was by far the best restaurant we visited during our time in Isla Mujeres. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel right at home.
The food was just as impressive. Every dish was full of flavor, perfectly prepared, and beautifully presented. The drinks were just as stunning. When everything was brought to the table, I was genuinely blown away. I wasn’t expecting that level of presentation and it really took the experience to another level.
The owner, Jorge, was incredibly friendly and clearly passionate about what he does. We watched him behind the bar mixing some of the best-looking drinks we saw on the island.
If you’re in Isla Mujeres, this is the place to eat. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. You will not be disappointed.

The food is one of the best dining I’ve found on an island. The ceviche was fantastic. Great server and the staff is so friendly. Amazing mac & cheese with lobster! I devoured the molcajeta con arrachera. Incredible salsa with a great smoky flavor. The presentation was well prepared. The portions were more than adequate! We couldn’t finish several of the entrees.

They had a fantastic deal going on for 3 tacos and 2 beers for 320 pesos. Got the pescado al pastor and the empanadas, and the food was phenomenal, best tacos we’ve had on the island. They make their own blue corn tortillas in house, their salsa is delicious, and the staff are very friendly. We wish we had tried this spot sooner.

Some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. We ordered several and had some coconut shrimp for dinner. The host was very nice and friendly, I will definitely return next time I visit! I really recommend the Passion Fruit (Maracuya) Cocktail. Also the sauce they give with the chips at the start of the meal is amazing, overall a great experience.
