We love El Mexicano in Sanford! Been going there for years! Not sure why this photo is of the Waterboro restaurant. Food is delish and drinks are spot on! Try the shrimp quesadillas!

Had an awesome time with my family. The food was absolutely delicious! I ordered the Fajita Skillet and it was great. You could hear them bringing it to the table sizzling away!! Haha

My family loves going here or getting takeout because of the great food and drinks. The various bowls are delicious and you get a lot for the money. I recommend the Barbeque or Pollo as my two favorites, my wife loves the Quesadilla del Hongos. Margaritas are also on point. Can be a little noisy during peak business hours, but otherwise a great place with outdoor seating in warmer weather.

It’s not Tex-Mex (which I’m used to), but for Maine it’s pretty good!
The chips were fresh and warm, the salsa was fresh and had the perfect amount of heat (both red and green tomatillo). We ate the whole bowl lol
My husband had a steak taco salad and a Baja fish taco on the side. He loved the taco salad but said the fish taco felt like a frozen piece of fish in a tortilla (despite being in Maine where there is fresh fish everywhere!).
I had the special which consisted of two chile rellenos and a crunch taco. The taco had plenty of ground beef and I was happy the shell was fresh. I was also happy that the chile rellenos wasn’t dipped in batter and fried. It was just the cooked pepper stuffed with cheese and I really liked it.
The food was good (despite the fish taco) and the service was ok. It did take awhile for the waiter to come to our table to ask for our drinks and it also took him awhile to check on us – we had to flag him down for more chips.
The prices are reasonable and I felt like we didn’t overpay.
Overall it was a good little find and I know we will be back.

Fantastic burritos. We’ve traveled all of Mexico and these are some of the best we’ve had (although we hardly saw burritos anywhere in Mexico). Lots of flavor!! A very spicy picante salsa is available if you ask for it. Recommend the burrito Sanford and the burrito tomatillo. Friendly and quick service. Beautiful restaurant. Beyond impressed.

We moved from Texas and heard that this was the place to get the real deal. I didn’t expect it given the generic red sign out front and being in a sort of strip-mall place… I was wrong to presume.

Its really really good. When I surveyed my born and raised TX wife, she says its not as good as TX but its EXTREMELY close and it’s good as it gets. The food was excellent, servers were friendly, I could tell right when I walked in that several of the patrons were frequent flyers and that was a good sign. The waiters conversing amongst themselves in Spanish was also a good sign. The fresh ingredients and great presentation was obviously also a huge plus.

A lot of the food on the menu is Tex-Mex but there’s a few true MX dishes on there too like your birrias and al pastors, things like that. They have fresh made corn and flour tortillas, a staple down south that’s pretty rare up here. Usually you’re eating something made by Ortega. Not here!

Anyhow we don’t live too far away, we’ll be back. Don’t bother with any other TXMX food in ME if you’re close enough to El Mexicano.

Decent Mexican restaurant in Sanford Maine. Family owned, giving great service. Food quality is middle of the road. Some selections are very good and others are just blah. Rice and beans were overcooked and bland, but the salsa, queso fundito and margaritas were excellent. Worth a try.

Food and prices were good, what a typical Mexican restaurant has and tastes like. However our waiter was very chaotic despite his good intentions. It was over 20 minutes to get our bill and then Togo boxes. It wasn’t busy at all either.

Almost unnoticeable in a strip shopping center this turned out to be a hidden gem.The food was delicious and portion sizes were just right.Brightly painted without authentic style music playing the bar area has a small canteena feel.

Best Mexican food we have had in Maine. Excellent portions and delicious food. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to my husband with a soy allergy. We ordered take out but the restaurant was really cute. We would definitely love to eat inside some time 🙂 10/10 recommend
