Placed an order for pick up. Paid $26 for an order of boneless chicken chunks, which comes with rice and beans, and I placed an order for tostones. Insanely overpriced, and check out the pic of my tostones, horrible. They weren’t fried correctly, or even smashed correctly. This is the problem with most of these restaurants anymore, they love jacking up the price, but not the service or quality.

Pepper steak didnt have any flavor and with lots of oil. The plates only come with one side. Each extra side is $5+ and the portion is small. La parrillada for 2 people only comes with one portion of rice and beans not enough in for 2 people. The food is not worth the price and is very oily.

Such a cute little place and probably the best food I had while on this trip! As soon as you walk in it’s like coming into a cozy little home. They have a large variety of food to chose from and some of the food is displayed in buffet style so you get an idea of what you would like to have. We had the chicken fingers and fries along with the Costillas guisadas which were amazing! Can’t go wrong with choosing this place as your go to food!

Our visit was on New Year’s Day. Parking is very limited. There was only one person serving the hot table and waitressing the tables. She was very friendly and apologized regularly for taking long to service our table. She made every effort to give us good service. The food was not great, unfortunately. We ordered a big platter that said grilled meat, but the meat was very dry. The tostones were also stale and dry. I don’t recommend it.

Food was ok… had the mofongo with shrimp, the mashed plantains were on the sweet side(not my preference), the shrimp were good and so was the sauce. My GF had the same but with chicharron and it was chewy. NO PRESIDENTE BEER, NO COUNTRY CLUB, had to remind the server that we had asked for some extras, and the worst part were the flies… we had to be constantly swatting them away… other than that, the decor was nice the place was clean and so was the bathroom, the atmosphere was pleasent and the food at the buffet looked fresh and good. Wish i would have gone with something off the buffet better… maybe next time if there is one

“A Taste of the Caribbean in the Poconos – El Merengue Restaurant”

We visited El Merengue Restaurant in the Poconos for dinner, and it felt like a quick escape to the Caribbean! The exterior is vibrant and colorful, reminiscent of a true Caribbean setting. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by the staff and promptly seated. The staff was courteous and attentive, answering our questions and offering great recommendations.

The aroma of fresh Caribbean food filled the air as we browsed the menu. Much of their food is displayed behind glass, steaming and fresh, allowing you to simply point and choose. We ordered a few dishes, including rice, red beans, and pernil (pulled pork), which was packed with flavor and juicy tenderness—a burst of excitement with every bite!

We also tried the empanadas (beef and cheese), made fresh to order, which took a bit to prepare but was absolutely worth the wait. Their alcapurria—a Caribbean favorite with beef and potatoes wrapped in fried plantains—was perfectly seasoned, and the chicken and garlic mofongo was deliciously fresh, made from scratch with unbeatable flavor.

The food here was absolutely amazing. El Merengue is a true “diamond in the rough” in the Poconos, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Caribbean meal. Don’t miss the chance to try this hidden gem if you’re in the area!

Amazing Dominican Food in PA! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious. Being Dominicans from NY we wanted some familiar flavors our first night in the poconos. My son loved his pollo al horno and my daughter enjoyed her yellow rice and breaded chicken. The jugo de chinola and limón were amazing. Loved all the umbrellas on the outside.

Nothing like a place to eat that no one speaks English and makes white costumers feel like they’re a burden. Food was meh at best. Had oxtail and pernil and empanadas and just ordering was horrendous while they can’t tell you what they’re saying and look at you clueless. Then your server sits and enjoys her lunch while you sit without a refill or napkins. Maybe a simple no English sign would help.
