We have been going to El Maguey since the 90’s. Consistently, hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant in St. Louis. My normal go to is tostadas or chicken taco salad. Last night I tried something new, tamales. Delightful! Space is beautifully decorated and staff more than kind. ❤️

I’ve had amazing experiences at El Maguey, and less impressive ones. This one was okay.
I love this location, with its beautiful chairs and art. The server was also very kind and prompt. However, the meal itself was quite bland, and the chips were very stale. I wound up skipping the chips and adding the salsa to my dish. (I had the Tilapia Cancún.) My dish also did not come with the tortillas listed on the menu.
The bathroom is largely clean and is accessible. However, one of the toilets was not at all clean. This may have happened the same day, meaning staff may not have been aware. The rest of the space was extremely clean.

This place is a gem of the area. One of the best Mexican restaurants in St.louis. If you have never been here you should. If no one has told you about this place its because there keeping for themselves… Thursday night they have excellent prices on Lime margaritas what better place to enjoy your margarita. The chips were served warm and not heavily salted. the salsa had been made fresh. My quesadilla was fully loaded with meat and cheese the way I like it! Very reasonably priced. I definitely will be back!

I got the callejeros tacos with shrimp and carne asada and it was very good – have always enjoyed what I have gotten here. Also ordered a jumbo frozen lime margarita – more than enough for me to drink! The jumbo is probably equivalent to two normal sized drinks.
They were also short staffed there today, and super busy, and still managed excellent service. It’s a smaller location but just as solid as the bigger ones.

This is a regular staple in our families diet but since COVID this place has gone down hill with their food. Today was the absolute worst experience I’ve had there. Don’t order the fried chicken salad. Was Dyno bites cut up in lettuce, nothing else.
Ive got to say they didn’t charge us for my meal and also let me order something different. But overall a disappointing dinner on a holiday weekend

The menu looked great, but when I saw burrito carne asada, I knew what I was ordering. I’ve had plenty of these in my life time and this was the best one ever. The steak was flavorful and really nice cuts.
The salsa and chips were okay – the salsa was moderately hot and a bit tart. Chips were standard.
Service at lunch was good and the food came out fast. I’ll be back.

We went to the el maguey in Saint peters for fathers day and I had a great dish but couldn’t find it at any other el maguey. Then I finally stumbled upon this menu and found the El Toreado. Amazing, rice cheese bacon shrimp and chicken! But the frozen margaritas where watery and a waste. Go for the food not the drinks.

Service and food were great! I ordered the fajita El Maguey, it was a huge portion and very tasty. Parking is limited as well as seating. I will be back.
