I like the fact they had authentic mexican music playing.
The food was very good, and didn’t take long to get to our table. I had the mixed Fajita. The shrimp, steak, and chicken were all very good
Since we were there between lunch and dinner, there were not many other patrons there.
Okay so this is my only complaint.. Once we got our food, our waiter completely dipped. Didn’t come back to check on us or anything. Matter of fact , my wife went to the bar to get to-go boxes, and to find the waiter to get our check.
So overall we thought it was good. Possibly the staff needs a little more work. I noticed others had the same complaint. I didn’t drop my score over it though.
The portion of my to-go chimichanga was shockingly small for the price. I asked for double rice instead of rice and beans and received a very small single serving. The chimichanga itself was about the size of my palm, easily the smallest I’ve ever been served (think Taco Bell burrito size but a little smaller.) I asked whether this was lunch or dinner portion and was told they are the same size, only the price changes. Maybe it was smaller because it was put inside a tiny to-go container, but that should never affect the portion when you’re paying dinner price for an adult meal!!! This was my first and last time ordering that.
I have also noticed during my last few visits, the restaurant is consistently understaffed. The bartender acts as host, server, and possibly kitchen support, and while he is very friendly and clearly working hard, service suffers. The food does come out quickly but during every visit, once the food is dropped off, there’s no check-in unless I flag someone down, which I always have to do for drink refills or the check – even when the place is nearly empty. During downtime, staff will be sitting at an empty dining table or leaning on the bar head down on the phone – this is consistent every visit as well.
I still enjoy the flavors here and the main staff member is kind, but the combination of short staffing and receiving a kids-size portion for an adult meal definitely lowers the experience. Normally the portions are okay, but this visit really missed the mark. The pictures don’t do it justice showing how small the chimichanga was. Disappointing.
I kept coming back here hoping for a better experience because the food is delicious but after this visit, especially overpaying for the smallest meal I’ve ever received from a Mexican restaurant, I’m going to take a pause. I can’t justify paying for the small portion size anytime soon.
Even though I didn’t receive what I paid for this visit, I still gave a generous tip for good measure. I hope this honest review is received well so things can improve!
This really was my favorite Mexican restaurant food wise but I always aim to speak with honesty and sometimes it’s not happy. I hope that when/if I visit again, there will be improvements.
REMINDER to the visitor, do not order the chimichanga if you’re expecting an adult-sized meal. Unless you don’t mind a kids portion size. Otherwise, you’ll walk away feeling like you lost money.
I had the El J’s Alambre. I got plenty of shrimp and bacon, but was lacking on the steak and I don’t remember any chicken, so check your plate. The bacon became the star of the dish, but not in a good way. It was soft fried and a little greasy so that pretty much was all I could taste. If the bacon were crispy and then added, it would’ve blended better with the other flavors. It’s my fault though for choosing the one with bacon, so no ding to them… now I know. I’ll be back for sure!
I got vegetarian spinach enchiladas and rice and beans. Very happy we picked this place. The service was amazing, the younger woman at the counter was very kind and our food took like not even 10 minutes. Food is very delicious, decor was very cute and we enjoyed taking pictures in the large chair while we waited for our food. We will be back!
No offer to do anything to make it right, no discount/gift card, nothing… Don’t make the mistake of ordering from here.
UPDATE: oh good, now I see that no tortillas were included with the fajitas and no birria sauce was included with the birria tacos… this place can’t seem to get anything right. I suppose I should have checked, but after almost an hour of waiting I was ready to get the hell out of that place.
The value for the quality/portion of food, charming atmosphere/decor, and excellent service is top notch. A casual spot that can easily double as a cute date night in one of the back booths. Whoever selected materials and orchestrated the design did an excellent job, a lot of attention to detail.
The only thing that wasn’t standout was the women’s restroom, but it was very clean. Our service was excellent, the bartender was friendly, fast, and did a great job juggling multiple tables while we sat. Overall, we were actually quite impressed and will be happy to come back!
