When it comes to street tacos, I hold pretty high standards. There are three local places that I put on a pedestal, one of which I hadn’t had in WAY too long. In fact, I have enjoyed their food truck many, many times, but had neglected their brick-and-mortar location since opening about a year ago.

When my straps and snaps buddy hit me up and said it was time, there was zero hesitation on my end. An hour drive just to rendezvous, and another 30 minutes of anticipation from the passenger seat… no problem. I knew it would be well worth it. Not only was I excited for my favorite tacos, but to see Benjamin Bib-Buttons try them for his first time as well.

I’ve seen several food trucks make the transition to brick-and-mortar, but rarely have I seen it so well accomplished. These folks went full-throttle! The branding throughout was a reflection of pride that shines all the way through to the food.

We were there towards the end of lunch rush, and it appeared that there had been no shortage of patrons. Nonetheless, we were warmly greeted by a familiar face. Mind you, I hadn’t seen my food truck amigo in nearly two years, but he recognized me the moment I entered. We were treated like family, seated immediately, and served our drinks, chips, and salsa within a brief moment.

While Denim Dan mulled over the menu, we ordered a trio dipper (I believe that’s what they called it). The salsa was on par, the guac was a tad better than average, and the queso was solid as could be. Chips were pretty great as well, but this wasn’t what we were there for.

Starchie Bunker took most of my recommendation by ordering two al pastor tacos (on corn, of course), and one steak taco, with rice and beans (now I know why overalls have those side buttons). I had the only option that I knew I could fit in my belly and still quench my craving; two al pastor, and one shrimp.

I don’t recall Chest-Pocket-Pat’s review of the steak taco, but I sure do remember watching him literally melt in his seat when that al pastor hit his tongue. My sentiments exactly. Oh, and note to self: try the tea next time. He claimed it was easily the best sweet-tea he’s ever had! “And I know tea!”

These tacos hit different. Way different. I’ve honestly never had anything like ’em. They actually melt in your mouth! Consistently… EVERY TIME! I’ve tried other options, and they’re always great, but the pastor and shrimp are the two winners for me. On this particular occasion, there was also some fish added to my shrimp taco, not sure if it was an intentional bonus, or a mix-up, but I had zero complaints.

The ride back was mostly quiet, as our bellies were unreasonably full for just 3 tacos (and 2 baskets of chips and dip). This provided me plenty of time to beat myself up over not visiting sooner. I hereby solemnly swear to visit much more frequently, as should you. Whether it’s the food truck, which is still around the Tyler area pretty much daily, or the new Whitehouse location, go getcha some!

Execution: 10
The Bite: 10
The Vibe: 9.5
Expectation vs Reality: 10
Final verdict: Worth the drive and absolutely worth the stop.

I went to El Jalisciense with a cup of pazole in my heart. They didn’t have any, I was very sad. I asked what they had, and they told me some soup with meat, beans, and potatoes. I was like ok, I will take a cup of the soup. I just wanted something to sip on while I drove to Tyler. I was shocked by the price, $20 for a cup of soup and aqua fresca, pay the bill, move on, live and learn. Well, it wasn’t a cup of soup, it was a huge serving of the best stew I have ever had. Fried potatoes, meat, bacon, beans, grilled onions, grilled chili peppers, diced onions, cilantro, a sauce to add unnecessary flavor and heat, 3 homemade flour tortillas. Worth every penny. I don’t know the name of the soup, I even looked it up. I am finishing it for lunch, and I am one happy customer, again. Thank you El Jaliscience for the best stew ever. Please tell me the bame so I can order it again. Yes, I still want pazole.

Very delicious authentic Mexican food. They are from a different region so the sauces and spices are a little different than what we are used to around here. The al pastor was amazing and the strawberry horchata was so refreshing.

People say that pictures are worth a thousand words. Which can be true. You must first know authentic Mexican food. Seasoned to perfection. So I’m leaving my BEFORE & AFTER picture of the plate of Birria Tacos . Services and hospitality was amazing. Very clean atmosphere.
Go get you some….

Great Food. We love the Birria Tacos, Fluatas de Pollo, Elote, and Carne’s en sh Jugo! You also can’t go wrong with the flan for dessert.

Awesome service. So glad to have this kind of quality Mexican food in town.

If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food that feels like home, El Jalisciense is the place to go. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm hospitality and the smell of sizzling meats. The flavors are bold, traditional, and clearly made with care.

The tacos are packed with perfectly seasoned meat, and the handmade salsa adds the perfect kick without overpowering the dish. Their enchiladas stand out too—rich, flavorful, and served with generous portions of rice and beans. You can tell everything is made fresh, from the guacamole to the horchata.

Service is consistently friendly and fast, and the atmosphere is relaxed, clean, and comfortable. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch or a family dinner, the experience always feels inviting.

Overall, El Jalisciense delivers amazing food, great value, and a true taste of authentic Mexican cooking. Highly recommended!

Food was good. Upsell everything (add on and price). Dessert wasn’t as good. Had a branch in taco. To top off the evening, we were charged for chips/salsa. We received disclosures about extra prices on things we ordered, but were not told chips or salsa was $7 for a second round (small amount). When I asked for a refund on chips he said he had signs up. He refused and didn’t care, even if it cost him future business.

So writing a review. Worst customer service experience in my opinion . It’s about the principle and no disclosure and his attitude.

We have eaten here multiple times since they opened, both dine in and take out, and the consistency is impressive! The shrimp tacos are my #1, the cubana torta #2. But everything we’ve tried has been delicious! Honestly I’d go for the chips and salsa alone.

Dropped my wife off in Tyler, TX for a doctor’s appointment… sneaked off to find a Mexican joint to eat! Ended up in Whitehouse, TX for the first time… and Jalisciense! Owner greeted me warmly… very friendly. Sat in a booth… ordered a mug of fresh pineapple juice… absolutely delicious! Wasn’t looking for a big meal so I ordered 3 street tacos pastor… served with double corn tortillas, lime wedges, diced onions & cilantro, and grilled jalapeño & onions… and a great green salsa. These tacos were outstanding! I’ll definitely itely be back!
