I’m from Houston, and this is a place I’ll always remember. I loved everything the barbacoa, lamb belly, and jalapeño cheese sausage. The barbacoa had a well-balanced flavor and wasn’t greasy. The lamb belly was rich and robust, with just a little bit of fatty juice. The jalapeño cheese sausage was a pleasant surprise; the melted cheese on top created a delicious, crispy exterior. Its slow cooked in these massive masonry circled pits. The owner and staff were very welcoming, we’ll for sure be back next year on our next trip.

Ok, hear me out, or read me out, people are complaining about the lack of flavour… but this isn’t fajitas from the grocery, you come here to enjoy meat cooked it its own juices! Fall off the bone tender lamb. The tongue and ribs are exquisite and they have plenty of lime wedges, salt and really tasty salsas to add flavour…. Oh and the consommé ….. no words to describe how good it is! This is an experience and totally worth getting up early on the weekends!!!

This is legit Mexican meats cooked in the traditional Hidalgo BBQ way. No frills, just good meat cooked by passionate people who treat you like friends. They were very welcoming and take great pride in giving you a good experience and explaining the process of preparation. If you are looking for the authentic Mexican BBQ experience, this is it! Note that the barbacoa is goat not beef!

This was the first time visiting and trying lamb Barbacoa and lamb head! I thought it was unique and very tender! I thought it was super cool that we showed up right when he was pulling it out of the pit and explained it to us. The salsa also were phenomenal!

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! I have gone many times and every time outdoes the next. The staff has created such a welcoming environment, smiles on their faces, going around to each table and creating such a hospitable space to enjoy such a great meal.
Speaking of the meal- the food is unmatched!!! So simple yet holds so much history and it’s beautiful to be invited into. I highly recommend the barbacoa tacos during the weekend and the chilaquiles breakfast plate during the week. The meat is always cooked to perfection & flavorful!

My suggestion: get barbacoa taco, with small consume. Load that taco up with cilantro, onions, some salt and dip that in the consume. Delicious. We got there right before it opened on a Saturday and was privileged to get an explanation and small tour of their barbecoa pit. The owner and the employees were beyond gracious. Definitely should be a stop on your Texas Barbecue adventures.

The food is absolutely worth the trip. Be careful as you may find a bone or two in the meat but otherwise really delicious. We got the Barbacoa, sausage and arroz con leche. Everything was great. Even though they’re super busy there is lots of seating. The grounds are beautiful and totally add to the atmosphere. Everyone was super friendly and patient. Line goes fast and takes about 30 min to get your food so not bad. Grab a drink, find a seat and enjoy the delicious aroma of all the yummy food they make.
