This place is a gem! Talk about atmosphere. WOW it’s a feast for the eyes. The charming metal cactus garden surrounding the front entrance caught my eye and I knew we had to give this restaurant a try and am I so glad. Inside the brightly colored walls are decorated with flowers and birds rooms filled with sombreros. The margaritas are delicious and refreshing. The food is amazing. We had enchiladas tamales tacos I think we tried a little of everything including the queso with meat. Delicious. We will be back and often. Our new family favorite Mexican restaurant ❤️

Dine in experience on December 6, 2025

Pretty tasty Mexican food, including the chips and salsa.

Solely from my personal taste buds, the Michelada wasn’t a hit. (No offense please, and no complaint about bartender. Premix was the possible corprate.)

Overall dinning experience, was good and relaxing. (Sat in bar dinning area)

Pretty basic and underwhelming, but I’ve had worse. I just expected mexican food to be more flavorful this close to the border, and with all the competition vying for your attention.

It was good for a takeout but we ordered the beef enchiladas with red sauce, i didn’t care for the red sauce e but smelled amazing a tamales he said was great and a chicken enchiladas with sourcream sauce was good but chicken was dry and the queso with beef was great.

This was our first time visiting, and we brought the whole family while we were in town. We ended up having a really great experience. The courtyard immediately caught our attention as we entered through the back—bright, inviting, and a perfect introduction to the restaurant.

Inside, the décor had an authentic Mexican feel, and the old‑style Mexican music playing in the background added a nice touch to the atmosphere. It felt warm, welcoming, and different from the typical places we’ve been to.

The food was very good from start to finish. The chips and queso were fresh and flavorful, and the combo fajitas were excellent. The seasonings stood out—they weren’t the same flavors you find in most Mexican restaurants. Everything tasted unique, like they put real thought into their recipes.

Our server was spot on the entire time. She checked on us often, kept our drinks filled, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed.

Overall, we really enjoyed our dining experience. Great atmosphere, great food, and great service. We would definitely go back!

My and my dad ate at this place and the food was wonderful. Great service from our waitress and great historical atmosphere. I wish they would bring burro alley back to life though. Maybe they need some more marketing to bring more customers in though. It has the potential to always be busy. I give this
unique place a 5 star review.

We visited on a Tuesday night. It was very quiet, but the host, the bar, and our server, Nicole, treated us like family. The question, the beverages (alcohol and sweet tea), the chips my goodness the chips, and the dinner was nothing short of delicious. We will be going back! I hope in the spring and warmer weather we can utilize the burro alley courtyard and do live music and happy hour. So much potential here! I’m so grateful this restaurant made a comeback!!!

Not the best mexican food around abilene chips and salsa no flavor at all the salsa was basically liquid no flavor at all chips had no flavor as well got the carne asada plate rice was ok bean are bland and meat was meh.
Churros were the worst no sugar or cinnamon felt like I was eating straight piece of bread that was hardened most disappointing restaurants in abilene for sure I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Nice looking place though that’s the only good thing I can approve.

oh my gosh i love the bright and colorful decorations here!! we came on a saturday around 2 and it was completely empty. there wasn’t many staff working but they made sure to still serve our table and refill our drinks. there’s a bar and patio, and has many seating options. there’s little shops and a salon surrounding the spacious patio. the food was good, and affordable not including drinks. but the tacos were dripping with grease but still tasted decent.
p.s. queso with beef was great

This review is for my second time visiting El Fenix. The first time was a bad experience, but I decided to try it again and write a review.

After 31 minutes, we received our food. We shared a plate of chicken fajitas. These fajitas do not seem like chicken breasts but thighs. I might be wrong; please judge by the pictures and let me know. It is my understanding that fajitas are made from chicken breast. The prices at this restaurant are high in contrast with the food quality. I wonder why the place closed the first time and if some of the same mistakes are occurring now. I liked two things from El Fenix: The green tomato salsa and the water without ice.

I have attached the menu so you can see the prices.
