Very few restaurants have the staying power to celebrate even a quarter-century of service, but El Fenix celebrated their Centennial! Founded in 1918, by Mike Martinez, a Mexican immigrant, El Fenix is credited as “The Originator of Tex-Mex Cuisine.” It has been named an “All American Icon” by Nation’s Restaurant News and a must-see dining destination for visitors to North Texas. Acquired by Local Favorite Restaurants™ in 2008, El Fenix was refurbished with freshened interiors and a revamped menu, while maintaining its signature authentic elements.

So much better these past few times I have went! The guacamole tasted fresh. I ordered fajitas and they turned out really good. I love Andy our waitress. She is so on point with our meals and keeping our tea glasses filled. We no longer have the check brought to us midway through the meal. When we do pay our check, if we are still at the table, we still get asked if we need refills. A+

I visited El Fenix for enchiladas. I ordered one chicken and one beef enchilada. The young lady working the front register greeted me with a smile (which is very rare these days), she repeated my order to ensure it was correct. She was the BEST!!!!. My chicken and beef enchiladas were delicious!!

They were a little busy, but they were well-staffed so it seemed unnecessary to have waited as long as we did for simple things like napkins, refills, our food, etc… Unfortunately, the food wasn’t any better than the service. ⭐⭐⭐ Sorry, El Fenix. Hopefully it’ll be better next time. ♀️

In the 1960s the food was cutting edge, unfortunately the menu has not been updated since then. Totally uninspired. It’s Mexican food with very little spice which attracts their old crowd. Over half of the customers are in their 50s or above. The food is okay, but with all the other Mexican restaurants out there with newer menu items these old standbys from the ’60s seem very dated. But if you want Mexican food that’s not spicy, including their salsa, then you would really enjoy this place.
