I wish I had taken pictures!! Stopped in after MANY years.. possibly over a decade of not having El Faro food. I used to frequently go to the location off 20 when I lived in Elgin and then the Dundee location when I lived in Carpentersville. Still great service. Food was delicious and VERY filling. All fresh ingredients. Staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was clean and organized. There was a small band playing when I got there but left soon after I arrived. There is a good amount of parking in front of the restaurant but you can also park on the street on the blocks surrounding the restaurant. Also, never noticed the ice cream shop next door! I will bring my teenager next time.

Went to the El Faro on State St. Parking wasn’t easy to find, but I found a map. I will post. We both ordered the flautas, which were very good. We also started with steak nachos. Single layer nachos on cut up tostada, amazing. The service was great, we were only people in the place for about 15 mins then some to-go’s picked up and another table was sat. Beans, rice, escabeche, nachos, and flautas. Everything was very good. I will eat here again. Also they have pictures of most of their food on the walls. The nachos were so good, we forgot to take pics, lol.

Food was great 2 years ago. I used to buy from here alot, thought I would try again and got a burrito and threw most of it in the garbage. The carna asada was uncut, low grade and very much fat pieces. I called to complain and they really didn’t care. If you eat in, they give you the better cut meat. THE QUALITY IS TERRIBLE. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR GOOD MEXICAN FOOD PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE.

And I’ve been coming to El faro since I was a kid very disappointing in the new owners a management you can tell that the food was microwaved as well as the tortillas you can tell the meat of the food was sour almost I had like almost close to due date of rot they need to do an upgrade on everything portions of food if you’re spending $14 or more for each entrée you should get your moneys worth no Bueno The bathrooms are filthy with no toilet tissue and made you use a spoon with a small key on it like who’s gonna take your bathroom key lol employees are rude and refused to fix their mistakes
