Social Profile:

EL EL FRIJOLES is the Taqueria in a barn, out in the middle of the woods here in coastal Maine. Yes, we are different, but that is how we roll! We make our food from scratch, we grow a lot of our ingredients, and we don’t limit ourselves to tacos and chalupas. In fact, we don’t own a fryer, so there are no chalupas. Or churros, or Dorito-inspired crispy taco creations. Just real, honest, innovative food served in a relaxed and gracious atmosphere. We are not the place for everyone, but many of our customers tell us we are the greatest restaurant on earth, so there is that….. All we know, is we have been at this for more than a decade, and it is still fun, they keep coming back, and we keep figuring out more stuff all the time. Try us!

A MUST stop. Excellent food, fresh ingredients, and good portions. You won’t regret it. Even a nice screened in building to eat in if buggy or raining. Playground and sand box for the kids, badminton for bigger kids and kids at heart. Walk over to their local artisan market that also has prepared food and local meats.

This is definitely one of the more unique taquerias I’ve been to. I had the spicy lobster tacos and crab quesadilla, which were really cool and unique.

As other reviewers mentioned, the food is bland. I wanted to like it. It was fresh, nicely prepared and big portions. But it had no flavor. I eat authentic Mexican food frequently. There is an Oaxacan family restaurant in my home town and that is what I was craving, so this was very disappointing. I drove out my way to try it. I think they are trying to appeal to children’s palettes. The atmosphere was more of playground vibe & travel stop for families. The place was clean and the owners were nice.

I’ve not had a lot of decent let alone good Mexican food in New England, so this was really a treat! Really kind and friendly staff, queer friendly business. The taco portions are very big and so very good! Great homemade salsa too. Would highly recommend.

We wanted to love this place, but everything was underseasoned, too bland for our taste. Maybe it was just the particular day in mid-August that we were there. Excellent atmosphere and big thumbs up for recycling and composting. We will give it another try soon.

I really wish I could give them 5 stars, but the food was bland. Everything was cooked well, the food came out super fast, love the outside seating, composting etc…but they forgot all the flavor.
