Ya know the very rare occasions that your mind unexpectedly transports you back to the past? My eyes welled up with tears after my first bite. I was instantly taken back to the cuban sandwiches I ate growing up in south Florida. I devoured, yet savored, every bite of the first half of my sandwich.
I ordered the pan con lechon. I tore into the sandwich while in my car in the parking lot out back. The fresh ingredients, flavors, the ratios, the BREAD, the press – everything was perfect! It was so good that I even climbed the parking lot stairs again to say just how much their sandwich affected me; I truly cried. The two employees were super nice and even let me purchase a loaf of the cuban bread to hold me over a bit longer until I make it back – which will hopefully be soon. They shared that their cuban bread is flown in fresh, daily, from a bakery in Tampa, FL.
There are a few other cuban places around and closer to my home and are ok, but El Cubano To Go is absolutely the best. It is worth every bit of traffic and extra time to get to them.
Their place is small, room for about three or four customers to wait at a small counter; and a small table outside. Just remember To Go is in their name. It is nestled between a few other businesses and has a decent sized parking lot behind the corner building, with a small staircase that takes you to the street level, right next door to their entry.
I can’t wait to return and devour my way down their menu. I wish I would have noticed the bread pudding on their menu!
The meat portion was all good in all my sandwiches, especially consider the price. Porks are tender and juicy, like a light version of pulled pork. Each sandwich was fully loaded so you got meat and bread in every bite. Texture of bread was good too, it has a thin layer of crunchy crust from the hot press, but also remain certain level of fluffiness and chewiness.
I like how every sandwich has its own sticker. The lady is super friendly as well. It’s our recent go to sandwich place.
My husband and I stopped in while we were waiting for a tire replacement, and El Cubano was the right move.
The veggie torta was tasty, especially the bread and aoili. The maduros are incredible!
Staff are so friendly and the location is very small but super cute! Highly recommend!
✌️ ♥️
Bring me to Florida it did. This takeout counter managed to impress with their traditional sandwich. It was all I expected but lacking in the ham department a little. The marinated skirt steak was tender and hit the right notes. Would have been perfect if it weren’t on the salty side. You will not be left hungry looking for more food as they serve generous portions. Next to try are the tamales and desserts. I can understand why the late-night crowd is so excited.
ALSO the desserts are actually house made. We had the coconut flan pie, cannot go wrong. Incredible addition to the community. Thank you!
