I’m a BHS student, and this is week 6 of my Student Eateries Series

Today, it was a hard day of deciding what restaurant to eat for dinner. However, since I had some Mexican food for lunch, how about I have some Mexican food for dinner as well?

The atmosphere was very cool. The restaurant feels very alive, and chill, which I like. The Mexican music was also chill.

The service was in increduble! Waiters were very friendly, engages with every customer, and was calm to all. Also, the waiter asked me if I wanted change, which really shows the waiter’s care for the customers. Muy Bueno!

The food was definitely the star of the show. YOU HAVE TO ORDER THE CHIPS AND SALSA! The salsa in this restaurant is top tier, supe fresh and herby! I also ordered a burrito with ground beef. The burrito gets messy easy, so that’s when I used the chips to pick up meat and beans and eat! Chips x Burrito is such a good combo! The flavor of the salsa combined with the burrito was heavenly! I also added some hot sauce and pepper, so the flavor is PERFECT! The burrito was incredibly rich and tender, very satisfying to bite into! The meal was incredibly fullfilling.

Overall, this restaurant is perfect! Full of fulfilling, tender, and flavorful food, with excellent service. I would LIKE TO SEE Birria Tacos being added to this restaurant. It’ll make this restaurant perfect.

Good atmosphere and decent and friendly service. The food was not good. The only thing crispy about the fish taco was the cabbage. The queso dip was very runny, and without individual appetizer plates we dripped it all over the table, like watery cheese. The chorizo was very salty. The chips were great! The server never asked us how the food was so there’s that. The restrooms need attention. We might be back for drinks but that’s about it.

Lovely Mexican restaurant that serves decent fresh food. We got nachos with queso and salsa as starter and a wet burrito and taco carnitas for main. The food tasted good and portions were really big. Would’t say it was the best Mexican that I ever had but we weren’t disappointed by any means.

The food here is exceptional — I felt like my stomach had been transported straight to Mexico! Our server, Alice, was truly top-tier, and the chef even brought out our taquitos personally, adding a warm and personable touch. If you’re looking for a taqueria with amazing flavors and plenty of good vibes, this is the place to be!

Ok spot for dining out. I got a couple tacos and wasn’t overwhelmed, not much flavor and the corn tortillas were to most prevelant taste. The rice was undercooked and a bit hard. Overall, meh.

This is a cute little taco joint in Burlington. I really like the atmosphere and layout, and they serve a great margarita. The beans and rice are certainly up to snuff. My favorite taco I’ve had here is the fish taco. I have had better Mexican in other parts of the country, but I have been satisfied with my meal both times I’ve been.

During my recent trip to Burlington, I was in the mood for some good Mexican food, and El Cortijo Taqueria came highly recommended. The retro ambiance immediately drew me in—it’s such a fun and unique spot that adds a lot of character to the dining experience. Despite the place being fairly busy, we were seated surprisingly quickly, and service throughout was prompt and friendly.

I ordered a pollo rice bowl, and my friend went with the pescado. Both dishes were beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The chicken was juicy and well-seasoned, and the sauces—especially the bartender’s special—really elevated everything. I loved how the flavors all came together in a satisfying way.

That said, the pricing did feel a little on the high side. Around $20 for a rice bowl or $22 for three tacos is more than I’d normally expect to pay. But in fairness, the service, ambiance, and overall quality helped justify the cost. Portions were decent, and I left feeling full and happy.

If you’re looking for a flavorful, vibrant Mexican meal in downtown Burlington and don’t mind spending a little extra for quality and convenience, I definitely recommend El Cortijo. I’d go back in a heartbeat next time I’m in town!

The food was great! Ordered the two taco plate. It started getting busy pretty fast and the noise level got really loud. Server was nice. Was going to order dessert but the server was also a little to quick and happy to grab the check.

It was a good attempt, but man, disappointing. Carnitas was full of water, didn’t eat it. Told waitress when she asked how things were, she was oblivious on how to handle. Food was bland and rice was undercooked. No seasoning.

Great soundtrack playing in an old diner car. Tacos were really good and not just trendy. Loved the bartender jamming to the tunes and making good spicy mango margarita.
