I drove about 15 minutes out of my way to try El Chucho because they were one of the few places open late with great reviews and now I completely understand why. We came in about an hour before closing and everything still came out incredibly fresh. The brisket taco was outstanding tender, flavorful, and perfectly balanced and the pollo appetizer was just as good. You’d never guess it was late because the food tasted like it came straight off a full dinner service. Great quality, great flavor, and definitely worth the drive. I’ll absolutely be coming back again

Great option for late dinner in DC.
The food is super tasty and they prepared it really fast. The staff is very friendly and there is a late happy hour which makes it a perfect spot to eat well and have some drinks.

Went here with a large group which we were able to get seating and our food very quickly with no issues. Their lengua taco was phenomenal and I would recommend this place to anyone. Mixed drinks and their frozen drinks were affordable as well!

Let me start off with the good. The food is incredible. Everything we had was excellent.
Let me also just get the bat out of the way. The restaurant at a 1.95% surcharge on all checks, however, the issue is that the surcharge is actually not 1.95%. It is closer to 2% or 2.1% . This is a little scummy by the establishment.
However, like I said, the food is excellent.
We started off with the queso fundido. This had so much flavor with the fresh tomatoes and onions on top, but the Cheez itself was grilled beautifully. The tortillas were also double layers and tasted fresh and homemade.
Then we got some tacos. The duck tacos are by far the best that this place has. Super crispy and flavorful duck. That taco lives rent free in my mind. The Ahi tuna taco was also very unique as I had not tried this before. Seared ahi tuna was cooked really well. I do wish they had served this with some lime to bring it together. Finally, we tried the chicken tacos. These were also excellent, however, I personally prefer Pollo Asado over shredded chicken. Again, I think if they added a salsa or some lime, this would really bring the dish together well.
The mango Agua fresco was delicious. Refreshing, bubbly, but they only give you a small quantity and fill it to the brim with ice.
Service overall was fine. They came by once to fill up our water, and maybe two other times to just check on us.
The atmosphere is also excellent. They have an upstairs enclosed heated area, which was nice to get away from the rowdiness at the bar downstairs.
Overall, I would come back just for the queso as well as the duck tacos.

Authentic Mexican-style street tacos in charming Columbia Heights! The selection of tacos, tequilas, and tortas make this a great place to relax and people-watch while dining outside at their sidewalk tables. The robust tequila selection alone makes this a great choice for lunch just steps from the Metro.

Food was amazing hands down good. The service not so good. I felt a little mistreated to be honest. And I didn’t feel to welcomed. I’m not from the area and wanted to get something good to eat before hitting the road. I was alone as well, so I was able to see and pay attention to how other people were treated outside of myself. I wanted to order to go but was in my feelings about the over all experience. If I was treated better this place would get all stars. And I still tipped!!

Really good drinks and food, the atmosphere was a great late night date night. The drinks were strong and if you like Mexican for it’s a perfect spot. I am a plane Jane house margarita guy and what the host offered was perfect.
