My boyfriend and I have been coming to this El Chico location for years, and it holds a lot of nostalgia for him. He has fond memories of going with his uncle and dad when he was younger, and every visit still carries that same comforting, familiar feeling.

The food is cost-effective and consistently satisfying. Especially the chile con carne enchiladas, which are always a standout. I usually like to mix things up and often go for one of the combination plates, which never disappoint.

On our most recent visit, I ordered the enchiladas with a chile relleno, and it was excellent. The cheese had the perfect pull, the chile was just the right level of heat, and everything came together exactly how you want a classic comfort dish to taste.

Beyond the food, the atmosphere feels like stepping into a piece of Dallas history, and that’s part of what keeps us coming back. It’s a reliable spot for good food, fair prices, and a dose of nostalgia especially if you grew up coming here or appreciate classic Tex-Mex.

I absolutely hate when the staff is super nice but the food is disappointing. We have lived in the area for many years and finally decided to give this place a try. For starters their salsa is very bland. I ordered The Caballero Combo. Like most other reviews, my food was literally room temperature almost cold. You can tell by the unmelted cheese. The enchiladas were okay. The burrito was just a cold tortilla filled with ground beef and topped with cheese. Reminded me of school food.

The boys got steak fajitas. The steak was tender and flavorful however the skillet was not hot. It didn’t char the onions. I say “onions” because it was mostly onions with 2 small pieces of green bell pepper. Their pico was also mostly onions.

We ended with a “fried ice cream”. Imagine soft serve ice cream with chocolate syrup served in a fried tortilla bowl covered with cinnamon sugar.

I don’t think we will be back.

I’ve been to many Mexican food restaurants all over and I have to say I am SO glad we decided to pop in to El Chico and check it out. The place is super clean, the service was excellent and the entire staff was friendly. The selection was excellent and everything in the menu looked good. The prices were great comparable to most any other place. I had the two-burrito plate with taco and my wife had the enchilada plate. Nice presentation on the food. I have to say the burritos were amazing and it was the BEST taco I’ve ever had. I’ve had thousands all over the place and these are top of my list. And the deciding factor for most Mexican food fans….the salsa was excellent! I hate that it’s across town from us, but we won’t hesitate making the drive for their food again! A+++

Our family has been dining at El Chico for over 50 years, starting in Shreveport, LA. It was so fun and nostalgic to eat there today. The food and salsa was just as we remembered. The carrot, onion and jalapeño relish was a treat too!!! Karen, our server, was the best!! We will be back!!

Wow! Hadn’t been here in thirty years and everything is still as great as it was then! We came tonight and had great food, and really great service! The Thursday Mucho platter was all you can eat and an excellent deal. Our server Achel was fantastic! We are so happy to be back and look forward to coming again soon!

Don’t believe a recent negative review, obviously written by an employee of Mi Pueblo (which is terrible). The restaurant was NOT full of elderly people, nor did it smell bad.

Our server was friendly and attentive and I loved seeing the manager, Dale, helping run food and take care of guests. Above average service.

The restaurant was clean and only smelled like food.

The chips were warm and crispy. The salsa was fresh tasting with a pleasant building heat that I would rate a 1 heat and my gf called a 2.

We ordered the quesadilla circulo salad, burrito bowl with “crispy” pork, and had the hot skillet apple pie ala mode for desert. Neither of the main dishes was perfect, but both were well above average.

The chicken on the salad had been grilled previously and then chilled. That’s always a mistake. It makes the chicken dry out, and this was no exception. Grill a breast fresh and serve it hot on the cold salad. The balsamic sesame chipotle dressing was good but odd, Asian flavor for a southwest salad.

The burrito bowl was tasty, but the pork was not “fried crispy” as the menu describes. It was more like carnitas. The wine chipotke dressing was good and different from most restaurants.

The apple pie was delicious. La Hacienda Ranch still wins on this desert, but El Chico s is definitely wonderful.

We will definitely add this place to our Tex-Mex options list.

I stopped by for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! They staff were super friendly and they seated us immediately. My mother ordered a raspberry mule, and it was absolutely amazing. It was very well made and a bit on the strong side. We both ordered off the lunch menu and were surprised by how large the portions are. We got the lunch fajitas and the enchilada taco plate. The rice was a bit puffy for my liking, and the salsa was a bit like tomato sauce, but that was my only complaint. Everything was well priced, and it was pretty tasty. It’s hard to find a good restaurant in this area, so I highly recommend it!

A family member’s favorite spot. Food is always good, service can be hit or miss.
Easy to dine and have a conversation – there is music playing and TVs are on, but you can carry on a conversation at the tables without interference.
Personal favorites – Old fashioned tacos, Monterrey chicken, chicken mushroom enchiladas, Avocado enchiladas
The only food caution I have is on the brisket tacos – I assumed brisket tacos would be shredded, but it’s more like mini cubed. Flavor was good, but the texture was off putting.

Oh my! Tex-Mex fare is always on my list of choices but these folks made my day when I found out that I can also mex it up BBQ style! Brisket tacos? Yes, please, may I have another! Ribs? One more slab, please! Set it right next to my combo fajitas! (Yes combo – try the chicken, its delicious!) Only 1 WARNING: the Top-Shelf Guac & Queso speak a love language that says, “more, more, more,”… be sure to leave room! Job well done to all the staff. I could not have been more satisfied with everything I ate. Outstanding!
