In town on a work trip, and the selection was slim. Took a chance and was well rewarded. It’s a dive straight out of the 70’s, but a great restaurant. The house salsa was fantastic. The New Mexican items on the menu were authentic and incredibly tasty. The margaritas were refreshing and potent. The service was fast and very friendly, even when quite busy. Came back the next night without a second thought. A bright gem in a dwindling town.

My hubby and I, stopped for a quick bite to eat on our way back to AZ. He had the NM flat enchiladas. They were delish. I had the chile relleno, but it wasn’t what I expected. No fluffy egg batter, just a bread crumb, type batter. Overall, the food was good!

To be a small town family restaurant, the food was nasty! The meat was cold an it looked as if it was microwaved. I was very disappointed, for I love Mexican food and this is the first time I’ve had bad Mexican food. 🙁 The place looks dirty and not inviting at all. Good customer service though.

It’s pretty terrible….salsa and chips..shitty…frozen everything else. Save yourself don’t do it. ….I eat Mexican food country wide…this place is pretty terrible. Waitress was nice….but food pretty nasty. When we told the server it sucked she just tried to get us to buy dessert and ignored our complaint. Please…keep driving.

The sign that says real Mexican food is a total lie… Their tacos taste worse than taco bell and a whole lot expensive. Also their meals are over priced half of the menu is $8.50 which should be halved. Also it took about 20 mins for the five meals to be done. And the restaurant’s theme makes no sense to the menu. It has a fiftys american theme but advertises the Mexican meals. Overall very bad food for a bad price.

The service was friendly, as you’d expect in a small town diner. My husband and I both got chili rellenos and my son got a grilled cheese. The grilled cheese was fine, and the rellenos were pretty amazingly bad. I am not sure even how to describe it, but it was bad. Maybe other stuff there is good…

One the few restaurants that has real Mexican non tex mex food. The beef tacos are actual fried tacos, no premade shell with ground beef. But what really makes this place special other then it’s a favorite of the wife’s is the Chile rellenos. By far the best I’ve ever had. I’m always suckered in to the No. 3 combination plate consisting of a bean and cheese tostada topped with lettuce and tomatoes , cheese enchilada, beef tamale, chile relleno and beef taco with beans and rice for only a measly $10 not to mention the fact that it tastes like actual homemade food. For the price it’s just fantastic. Another thing I love is the drink size, I drink water like a fish and love the fact that I’m not asking for 50 drink refills. Seriously I will not try another restaurant in this town unless this place closes.

Well worth the short drive from the interstate! Excellent, simple Mexican food a la tex-mex or New Mexico. Friendly and attentive servers. Good prices; fed a family of four for less than forty bucks.

This isn’t Miles Fleming, but his brother, Kevin. In the early 1970s, we checked in late into our motel in Lordsburg and was told the only place open was El Charro. We drove down the main drag and crossed the tracks and had a memorable dinner, with chile rellenos & salsa verde.
20 years later in 1991, I was travelling on a road trip with a friend to Carlsbad Caverns and in Lordsburg, we got off the Interstate and drove down the old drag and I was thrilled El Charro was still there. And the chile rellenos and the other food was as good as before.
My friend commented on the flies hovering around the window, and we both noticed a single male patron drinking a pitcher of beer by himself at the bar, but hey, this was what is great about a mom-and-pop dive (or greasy spoon, whatever you call it). I am thrilled El Charro is still in business and in reading the reviews, it sounds like some people do not like the vibe here, but more than half the reviews still comment on how good El Charro is. This is great. No local color at all in the faceless chain restaurants on the Interstate.
When I happen to be on the road again in Lordsburg, I will once again exit the generic Interstate and hop back to an earlier era and visit El Charro.
