Terrific food and wonderful staff. The soft cheese tacos and chicken quesadillas were superb. Queso was also really good. Did not try anything we did not like. Hidden gem down for sure.

As some others mentioned, you either love or hate this place. However, I may be an exception: don’t know whether to love or hate. The restaurant employees were nice and kind, they checked on you just enough. The food tasted “authentic”. That said, the choices were very limited. Especially if you’re looking for meat items, you don’t find any (unless you count ground meat as meat). Also, you don’t find any alcoholic beverages there – not even beer. The ambience was simple, a bit rustic, reminiscent of countryside. I love it but I also hate it. Giving benefit of doubt, 4 stars.

Went in on the reopening and manager sit us down and waitress took our order. We asked her 3 times to check on our food.she said she would and never came back to tell us anything. Several people had ate and cashed out and they had already filled those seats while we still sat there waiting patiently. We was there from 4 till 5:20 waiting on our food. People that had come in after us had already begun to get their food. Still no food.. the manager was sitting with some customers and taking their orders when we had finally had enough and left..

With this restaurant you’ll either love it or you’ll hate it. For my family and I, we love it! We have been regulars here for years. I get the soft cheese dinner every time. There’s really no cheese enchilada out there like it. If you’re going for the first time definitely try out their soft cheese dinner. Love this place and will continue to eat here for as long as they’re still up and running

You’ll either love it, or dislike it. Locals have been enjoying El Charro food for a long time. We had the special, taco, Tamale, cheese enchiladas, rice & beans…. Very good food, bland as is traditional Mexican food, spice it to taste with sauces. The menu doesn’t offer a large variety of foods, no chili rellanos, etc that you see on other menus, but what we had was authentic and delicious. Chips were fresh & salsa was on point. No frills here, just good food, served fast and fresh, by hard working lady’s who run their butt off to keep your table happy. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Overall a good meal and experience. We will return!

Love it when I can swing by El Charro’s in Sulphur Springs. I love the soft cheese dinner, and I start with Shredded chicken nachos. The staff are super kind and always remember me. The old booths are like stepping back in time.

One of my favorite places! Been eating the same entree (soft cheese enchiladas) for over 50 years. The same family still prepares the food.
Sadly, El Charro is now open only on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and until 9 p.m. on Saturday’s.

It is among, if not the oldest Mexican restaurant in Sulphur Springs Texas. They have parking, front and rear so there’s always a spot open. The menu is not overwhelming just straightforward old school meals. The food is good, not overpriced and the portions are generous yet not to big. The service during our visit was adequate, we’ve had better but we’ve had much worse. It’s located just a couple of blocks east of downtown. It’s worth finding if you like old school Text-Mex.

Good Mexican food for the area. Most people either like this place or don’t like the food. The Mexican food is different then most of the Mexican food of the Sulphur Springs area. I like it because it reminds me of West Texas Mexican Food which is different than Northeast Texas. I only give 3 star because it is not a welcoming environment. Too many signs at the door that states No to this and No to that. They need to have a more positive attitude about their business and customers and this place would be a 4 to 5 star place.
