Delia Martin is the woman who started it all. She’s been delighting us with authentic Mexican cuisine, including her family’s original Puffy Taco, for decades. Our menu is full of original recipes from Delia’s parents, Rosalio and Consuelo Rendon. In 1971, Delia and her husband George (Marty) Martin, took over the first 8-tabled restaurant in Fraser, Michigan. It wasn’t long before the demand for the Puffy Taco forced El Charro to expand, and then relocate from that tiny restaurant, to our current location on 14 Mile Road, where we tripled in size. Now, here we are – three restaurants and millions of Puffy Tacos later!

Ordered carry out and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Went to the restaurant at the 20 minute mark, paid and the waited another 25 minutes. Others near me commented that they had also been waiting an additional 20-25 minutes for their take out as well. Management needs to tell their employees to give a better estimate for how long it is actually going to take based on how many customers are in the restaurant and how many carry out orders are being taken. It’s not rocket science! After finally receiving my order and returning home, our botana was ice cold. It obviously had been prepared before our entrees and sat around. Another management oversight. You should be preparing all the food in the order so all are completed around the same time. The two entrees were reasonably heated and we were satisfied with their quality. I most definitely will not be ordering carry out from them again.

I politely asked who appeared to be the manager about our food after being told it would be ready 20 minutes earlier. Instead of addressing me, they called out the order name and walked away. I had to double-check that it was okay to take the food. Told her thank you, have a great day! No acknowledgment regarding wait time. Overall, the experience was very unprofessional—unorganized and rude. We’ve ordered carryout here frequently, but after this experience, we won’t be returning.

We went for a birthday lunch and had the BEST TIME!!! All the food and drinks were fantastic, we split a margaritas flight and it was delightful, we each got a puffy tacos, both the beef and chicken were delicious. They gave my friend a fried ice cream for dessert and we are nit supposed to eat dairy but it was so good we ate almost all of it. Staff were all attentive and so friendly!

It’s one of my favorites! They’re great about accommodating my dairy allergy and their guacamole and salsa taste fresh and delish! They make great fish tacos! I usually get a taco dinner with fish or chicken tacos. Their beans and rice are tasty.

Update: Stopped by today and it was just okay. Ordered the Super Wet Burrito Dinner with shredded beef. Beans and rice were included. What I received was a regular burrito dinner. No chili was added to make it even a damp burrito. When I brought it up to the waitress, she said that the chili was underneath all the veggies and cheese. NO, there was just the veggies, cheese and tortilla. She kept insisting that it had chili. No, it did not.
Long story short, there was no chili, but the rest of the meal was good. Puffy Tacos were very good. Changed my rating from 5 Stars to 4 based on service and an order that wasn’t what I ordered.
Enjoyed visiting on Mother’s Day. The meals were very good. Had the wet burrito and the puffy tacos. It was pretty busy for dinner, as expected, but the service was excellent. Order was brought out quickly and accurately. No complaints. Definitely recommend.

Puffy tacos! Second time visiting this restaurant but different locations. This location is so small but we didn’t wait for a table which was good. Service was excellent, the moment we sat down someone brought chips and salsa. Drinks were never empty and food came out hot. Chimichangas and Puffy Tacos had the right amount of flavour and crispness. Everything was great!

Two words. Puffy. Tacos. They have the best tacos, period! Ordered the combination platter, with jalapeno nachos and chips and salsa. Everything was great! Service was on point the whole time. Our drinks were never empty and the salsa was flowing as needed. It was a great experience and I am happy to go back soon and get some more tasty food! Also, this location is much more convenient than driving over to the Fraser location!

Food had no flavor.. their iconic Puffy Tacos are not so puffy anymore. Extremely small, very white and doughy.. smaller than an Ortega boxed taco shell with NO PUFF whatsoever. Very disappointing to say the least. Service was amazing. Will NOT be back to any El Charro again.

First time customer. Had lunch with the hubby. I ordered the taco salad, he ordered chicken enchiladas with rice. Food was excellent!!! Chips and salsa brought to the table as well. Also very good!! A strawberry and a papaya Margarita completed the experience and we shared a fried ice cream for dessert. Will definitely be back!!!!

Rather small on the inside which makes for poor acoustics & longer wait times to be seated. The food is okay. Their botana is good. Their signature puffy taco could use some sour cream. The fried ice cream was the best part.
