I was seated and the waiter brought chips and salsa within a few minutes and took my order. I ordered the 3 item combo for $13.00, a bean burrito covered in red sauce, and 2 bean tostada’s with beans and rice in the combo.
Yes I am vegetarian.
They bring me my plate of food, a large plate with a minimal amount of food on it.
I will explain, I consider a burrito to be made with at least an 8 -10″ diameter flour tortilla filled with beans, meat and cheese etc.
I received a 5-3/4″ diameter flour tortilla that would be used for a soft taco, with minimal amount of beans and no cheese inside, but some cheese sprinkled on top after being covered with sauce. I have see Enchiladas bigger than this thing.
The Tostada’s, a bean tostada is generally covered with refried beans on the hard flat corn shell, then at least lettuce and cheese covering the entire flat corn shell.
I received the correct 5-3/4″ diameter flat tostada corn shell with beans spread on the entire shell, but with only about a 2″ diameter of lettuce and cheese sprinkled in the middle of the tostada shell.
I ate it all and was still hungry, so I asked for more salsa and finished off all the chips.
I paid the bill thinking I would become full while driving home to the west part of Fredericksburg. I do not live in the King George area.
After the 20 minutes drive to Fredericksburg, I am still hungry so I stop at Taco Bell for 2 bean and cheese burritos to fill me up. After paying another $5.09 because I was still feeling hungry.
I felt like I got cheated or ripped off at this El Charro Mexican restaurant. The ingredients to make my 3 items combo I bet did not cost more than $1.00, and the feeling of being cheated.
I will remember this experience and I will not go back to this restaurant ever again. Most likely this restaurant will be closing sooner or later if they continue offering very small portions and a bad value for your money.
The chips and salsa was delicious- not super home made tasting but good. They also have the ranch-based sauce. Very tasty. Chips were hot. Not home made as far as I could tell. I ordered an appetizer which came fast and was very tasty.
