Love the location and the ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. Reasonable prices on excellent food. Ample portions and decent menu selection with a children’s menu to ensure even the most picky child will eat something. Service was very good and staff is very friendly. A family favorite for when we venture to Floyd!

I ordered the pollo ala Mexicano. I decided to give a review while sitting here because of the skimpy amount of chicken given for $14.50. I’ve just sorry I didn’t take the pic when it first came. I go to a lot of Mexican restaurants & have never had this. I will not be coming back to patronize this place. I wonder what else they are cutting back on.

The positive: after being seated, we quickly received chips & salsa. Shortly after that, our waiter came to take our drink order. Great prices. No super loud music so you could enjoy a conversation.
The negative: the food was bland, and was served barely warm. Furthermore, our dishes were supposed to include beans, which were not served. Tried to get the waiter’s attention twice (he was super busy, so not a big deal) then got the attention of another employee who sent the hostess over. She questioned us like we were making it up (clearly stated on the menu), then sent our waiter over who quickly fixed the issue.

Terrible experience. Chips were stale. When we asked for fresh chips, they brought out the same basket. Didn’t get appetizer until after the main entree was served. Kitchen ran out of regular size plates because it was so busy and ended up giving us lunch plates for our dinner entrees, making it half the portion of a normal dinner meal. I normally have leftovers to take home and this time my plate was empty. Spoke to the manager and he said that the plates were the same size as normal when clearly there was a difference. When we asked for queso, the waiter brought me a cheese dip cup full of shredded cheese…. My crunchy tacos had less meat on them than at Taco Bell…. The waiter and the manager were very dismissive of our concerns and did nothing to rectify the situation. As regular customers this was a huge disappointment and has us contemplating going elsewhere from now on.

We were a party of four. I had been to El Charro a few times over the years and it was an okay place to eat.
Two nights ago (end of August, 2024), my opinion changed. The mixed fajitas was outstanding in all ways. The fogginess of the photo is from the steam coming from the food. It came with two tortillas, serving of guacamole, refried beans, sour cream, salad, and ceviche. For $18, I had a dinner and next day’s lunch. Food was very nicely prepared. The same was true four all our dishes. The margaritas were very refreshing and flavorful.
Service was excellent. We were asked several times about the food and if there was anything we needed… not in a bothersome way. I felt that everyone working at El Charro had customer service at heart.
Floyd, VA has several very good places to eat and I now include this on my list.

My parents got the steak quesadilla and enchilada plate. I got the ‘mi Mexico’ carnitas. The red sauce was basically enchilada sauce, the salsa verde was mild, but good. I added Cholula and salt. The carnitas were perfection. Being from Southern CA I’ve been looking for good Mexican. Who would’ve thought that I’d find it in Floyd?

My friend and I are connoisseurs of Mexican food. We know what authentic and fresh food tastes like and unfortunately, this is not it. Our service was okay and the restaurant was pretty clean. Our margaritas, which happened to be on special, tasted like pure sugary syrup with no alcohol whatsoever! The food was subpar as well as the prices! It’s a no from us!

So very glad we stopped here, we only wish we had done it sooner!! They have a very welcoming atmosphere and staff. Their service was outstanding. And the food??? I cannot say enough good things!! Very very flavorful!!! Pretty sure they just ruined all my favorite Mexican restaurants at home for me. Now I have to drive 4 hours to get that good good!!

Love spending time at my hometown Mexican grill but it is ridiculous to pay 10+ for the bare minimum. These cups are halfway full and supposed to feed my family of 6. Way over priced for what you receive.
