So, I feel compelled to review this joint bc 1) they’ve earned a great review, but 2) I think they have a disproportionate amount of low reviews that are not deserved, and are not helpful to would-be diners.

There are many things I love about El Charro– great service, fast kitchen, kick butt margaritas, to name a few. But I also love the breadth of the menu. You can go here with your basic friend who wants a basic burrito and only cares that it is BIG and SMOTHERED in queso. Simultaneously, you can order yourself something more authentic and tasty.

If you order the big burrito or the beef and bean nachos at a Mexican restaurant- in OZARK, MO!!! – well, um, don’t be surprised that that is what you get. But you might be surprised, if you pony up the green backs, and order one of their specialties like the Molcajete El Charro, or the whole fried fish, or the Steak Feliz, or the Pollo Especial, and that’s just a few of their knock your socks off delicious plates – well, you might be surprised how flippin good this little Mexican restaurant in (again) OZARK, MO truly is. It’s great, and it’s affordable!

Oh, and for the salsa, yes, the one they serve is pretty run of the mill. But, if you simply ask the waiter for their spicy salsa they’ll bring you some of the best, fresh, house made, rip your lips off salsa you’ve had in a while.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that context matters. This is a classic Mexican restaurant, surviving and thriving in OZARK, MO. They cater to a wide base, that’s not easy to do. They’re not claiming to be some trendy, autentico, taco truck. A lot of the food is basic, and I’m glad bc it means I can take large groups there and everyone can get what they like. And for the rest of us who want something a little different, and, well, better, order a dang special! And don’t forget to ask for the spicy salsa!

Visited Sunday about 11.30 am lunch. Quick seating and met with friendly staff. Ordered tea and chips and salsa provided. Chips were cool and somewhat generic while salsa was definitely like something out of a jar. Salsa had no real flavor or taste to it. Look like tomato sauce with no kick. Anyway we had ordered 2 #6 lunch combo meals that was supposed to have red sauce on them . I thought the food was decent but not good enough to drive 20 miles for and red sauce was scarce on plate. No beans with this meal was somewhat unusual. Place was clean along with restrooms . No complaining as in bad way but there could be some minor changes that could seriously increase there ratings. Plenty of car parking and semi or travel trailers can park in Wal Mart parking area off to side.

I really like the food and the menu has a nice selection. The service was unusually slow when it is normally very quick. I am hoping this was just a one off event.
The quality of the food warrants a recommendation and return visit.

Atmosphere was nearly as bland as the food. Chips over cooked, toppings switched on food orders, everything tasted watered down. Wasted over 50$ on something I could barely eat. Only saving grace was the cheerful demeanor of one employee (the rest were indifferent or plain rude) and an okay tasting desert. Won’t go back.

Awesome food.
Fast friendly service.
Reasonable prices.
My wife is a ribeye lover and this one passed her test. We will definitely be returning.
The pollo especial was really good, wish the chorizo was a bit spicer, though.
Tall drafts are huge. Way bigger than most places in town.

Very good and filling. Chicken a little under flavored but overall it was a great time. I’d come back. The bean dip was amazing. So much cheese tho get ready for the farts. 🙂

Definitely my go-to Mexican place! Service is always super fast, food almost always out in 5 minutes or less and has good flavor! Friendly staff. Clean restaurant. My favorites are the chicken fajita nachos or taco salad. Plenty of vegetarian options too. Queso is a must with the complimentary chips & salsa. Always busy, but plenty of seating so rarely a wait. Several kids meal options. They offer to go orders as well.

We arrived at lunch time on a Thursday, atmosphere was pleasant but a bit barren. Service was very quick, including the food which arrived suspiciously fast. However when the food arrived it was pretty good. Only complaints we have are that the sour cream and guacamole were mixed with veggies making it difficult to eat with chimichanga. Another was that the other chicken meal has a bit dry with no sauce or other filling.

We have been coming to this El Charro for years and one big takeaway is that they are FAST!

The food is always very good and hot. The staff is attentive and friendly. We really love the chicken fajitas!! And you can’t beat the free chips and salsa.

Honestly this is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Ozark for a lot of reasons but the price point is excellent and the portions are wonderful. Highly highly recommend!
