The salsa and chips were good, along with the cheese dip! The menu was one of the best I’ve ever seen at a restaurant! Short, simple, and lots of photos! The food was ok, nothing fancy, nothing to “wow” your taste buds! The presentation was better than the flavors, by far! Our expectations were nothing going in, but we filled up and left for the day! Parking was plentiful and easily accessed! Service was ok and disappointing since the restaurant was nearly empty. Waiting for drinks was completely unnecessary!

Update: we went today and split the bareia tacos, very good!

Surprised by this Mexican establishment in Nixa. Service was ok, food plentiful and good except the black beans were very salty and could hardly be eaten. The rest of the meals were great!

This is easily mine and my fiancé’s favorite restaurant. I’ve never had anything here that was not exceptional, including the service!! The prices are great, best margaritas, and the food is always huge portions and fantastic. I love this place.

El Charro: A Taste of Mexico Right Here in Nixa

There are times when you just need a good plate of Mexican food. You know what I mean: something spicy, cheesy, meaty, and satisfying. Something that makes you feel like you’re in a cantina south of the border, surrounded by mariachi music and festive colors. Something that doesn’t break the bank but fills you up, by filling you with happiness.

That’s when you head to El Charro in Nixa. This place is the real deal: a family-owned restaurant that serves authentic Mexican cuisine with fresh ingredients and homemade recipes. You can smell the tortillas sizzling on the grill as soon as you walk in, and you can hear the kitchen sizzling with juicy meats and vegetables. The menu is extensive, offering everything from tacos and burritos to enchiladas and fajitas. But let me tell you what I ordered, and why you should too.

I started with the enchiladas, which are rolled tortillas stuffed with your choice of meat pt cheese and topped with a rich sauce and even more cheese. I went for the chicken enchiladas with green sauce, which had a tangy and slightly spicy flavor that contrasted nicely with the tender chicken and melted cheese. The enchiladas were served with a side of beans and rice, which were fluffy and flavorful, and a salad, which added some freshness and crunch.

Next, I tried the Chile rellenos, which are Anaheim peppers stuffed with cheese and fried in a light batter. These were amazing: the peppers were soft and smoky, the cheese was gooey and salty, and the batter was crispy and airy. The Chile rellenos came with a red sauce that had a hint of sweetness and heat, and a dollop of sour cream that balanced it out. They were also accompanied by beans and rice, which I mixed with the sauce for extra deliciousness.

Finally, I indulged in the fajitas, which are strips of steak, chicken, or shrimp cooked with onions and peppers on a hot skillet. You can choose from beef, chicken, shrimp, or a combination of all three. I opted for the combo, because why the heck not? The fajitas were sizzling when they arrived at my table, along with warm tortillas, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream. The meat was tender and well-seasoned, the onions and peppers were caramelized and charred, and the tortillas were soft and pliable. I made my own tacos by wrapping the meat and veggies in the tortillas, and adding some cheese, guacamole, and sour cream on top. It was a feast for the senses: the aroma, the texture, the taste. It was perfect.

The service at El Charro is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is both cozy and casual. The restaurant is clean and spacious, and the decor was colorful and festive. I enjoyed the music playing in the background, which added to the Mexican vibe. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and quantity of food. I paid less than $20 for my meal, and I had leftovers for later.

I highly recommend El Charro to anyone who loves Mexican food or who wants to try something new and delicious. It’s a great place to go with family or friends or even by yourself. You’ll be treated like a regular, and you’ll leave with a smile on your face. El Charro is one of the best restaurants in Nixa, Missouri. And trust me: I know good food when I see it.

My advice is to follow the instructions of Speedy Gonzales as you head to El Charro for your next meal, Andale! Andale! Arriba! Arriba! Yii-hah!

El Charro is always a dependable taco spot. Once I find my favorite dish somewhere it’s hard for me to order anything else. Here it’s the tacos a la plancha. Street tacos – you choose the meat and you can mix and match. I always get carne asada, chicken, and al pastor.

Great service and a bit more authentic Mexican food than most places in the area. Second time going and got their street tacos again. Both times were great and I love how they season their meats.
