Social Profile:

Like many immigrants who came to this country in hopes of opportunity and a better life, the Moncada’s migrated to this country from Mexico in the early 60’s with the same mentality and in pursuit of the of the American dream. Similar to many immigrants, our family had to work hard in order save money to be able to open a small business. The Moncada’s had experience owning a small grocery store in Mexico, and at the time businesses were not catering to the Mexican community. So naturally, in 1981, they opened a small grocery store with a small deli counter that sold Teresa’s (the matriarch of the family) recipes.

Longtime counter serve offering traditional Mexican eats such as burritos & tortas, plus breakfast.

I was sold on this place when I saw they make their own tortillas.

It’s decent. Order at the counter, build a burrito place; though they have more than burritos! Just look at the menu. Burrito is small and they don’t warm the tortilla. I like warm tortillas. Meat is delicious though. Refried or pinto beans; didn’t see black. Extra charge for most fixings: guac, cheese. Outdoor patio seating.

Imagine Chipotle but 10x better . We stopped for dinner and the food was so fresh and so tasty we returned for breakfast the following morning.

This place is always crazy busy because it’s so good. Luckily, you can order by phone and online to avoid the line. They have a large selection of meats and toppings to go in the burritos, stuff you don’t typically see other places. They make their own tortillas fresh and on-site. Sometimes, if they have extra tortillas (rarely happens), they sell packs to take home. The burritos are small, so you’ll need to get 2 or 3, but they’re also only about $4, so comparable to buying a super burrito somewhere else.

When I tell you, it’s just like moms house… trust me! I found this place when visiting Salinas and it did not disappoint. Affordable, authentic, flavorful, amazing! Tortillas made fresh just like your grandmother use to make them. I bought different types of burritos just to taste the difference. The salsa spicy…. Everything was great!

No pictures because we ate them so quickly 😉 We got the breakfast burritos. Easy ordering, perfect size, quality ingredients, tasty salsa, great value. This is the best in the entire area!

The most famous burrito shop in 3 counties! El Charríto or El Char for short is so good that it has become a household name in the Salinas valley. Whether it be there fresh tortillas that you can purchase or their chili verde burritos, you can’t go wrong with anything from this spot.

This place is overrated, its popular due to the former reputation of having the best burritos. It definitely nicer and cleaner looking than previous years but we tried all their meat options, all the meats lacked flavor. They haven’t had the authentic Mexican flavor since they remodeled and became a popular spot. Their food is similar tasting to Chipotle, maybe just a bit better.

Good Lord!! The tortillas are the best I’ve ever eaten. Devoured a bacon and egg burrito and a chicken one after. Truly amazing food. Guacamole was on point. Can’t say enough good things about this place.
