I enjoy chimichangas and have had enough of them over the years to know when one is well made. A good chimichanga should be fresh, crispy, aromatic, and balanced with a good filling and queso topping. Unfortunately, this one had none of those qualities. It had an off smell, the shell was soggy, and it felt like a heavy, wet pocket of protein. It was so dense that it was difficult to even reposition on the plate. Taking another sip of the margarita didn’t help, and even the water tasted off. At that point, I lost my appetite. I ended up eating only about 5% of the meal and taking just two sips of the margarita before deciding to stop.
Service was friendly overall, though it took some time before the waiter checked back in. One other thing stood out during my visit: the person assigned to clear tables was extremely quick and constantly scanning the room. The moment a family in the booth ahead of me left, he was at the table, clearing everything at maximum speed. When I left and glanced back, he was already clearing mine, too. Some may view that as impressive efficiency, but it felt a bit uncomfortably rushed to me.
I will say the place was quite busy, so it clearly has plenty of fans. The staff was friendly, and I have no complaints there. But between the drink, the food, and the overall experience, I left disappointed. Maybe their tacos are amazing, but for me, this won’t be a place I return to—even just for drinks.
Service: …
The food here is decent so they really don’t need to use these tactics to squeeze more money out of their patrons. As a business owner I’ve learned that you will have more long term success if you keep customers coming back, rather than screwing them out of a bit more money once, and never have them return. Unfortunately in our case, we nor anyone in our families will return here. That is 7 households that will not frequent this restaurant because of edgars tactics. There are many good Mexican restaurants in the area so its not a loss to us (and most likely not a major loss to the restaurant). Its just a matter of decent customer service and communication. The “misunderstanding” on Edgars part wasn’t the main issue, but rather how he handled it afterward that was awful. Although most of the servers including Edgar don’t speak English, this wasn’t the issue as my wife is Hispanic and speaks Spanish fluently.
If you do end up going here please be sure to check the bill. Also going during lunch isn’t worth it, as the quality of the food served during dinner is significantly better. I got the fajitas and the chicken was dry and not very hot. Sadly the tactics here are less than honest and if you happen to be served by Edgar don’t expect good service. Im not sure if this is something management makes the servers do or if it was Edgars way of making the bill larger therefore netting himself a bigger tip… unfortunate.
