Truly one of my favorite spots around. I loved it before I moved and I love it more now that we’re back. We have been gone from Jacksonville for a year now and when we moved back El Castillo was going to be the first place I came back to. I can safely say, after a year the food quality and taste have not changed. This is truly one of the most consistent restaurants around and I couldn’t ask for more.

We tried many places when we were living out of state but nothing compared to El Castillo. I’m so happy to be back and get to enjoy this place once again.

The staff are always so friendly and I am ecstatic to see how much they have grown. They’re getting the recognition they deserve!

I have to say, this was some of the best Mexican food that i’ve ever had! Everything is made fresh, from the red salsa to the salsa verde! The waitress was polite and efficient. I had 1 chicken tamale, 2 carnitas tacos and 1 chorizo taco with a side of rice and beans…Sooooo tasty! 5/5 food 5/5 atmosphere 5/5 service. Check out the market next store as well for authentic latin american flavors!

Delicious authentic tacos and Mexican food, tacos can be ‘gringo’ style too or authentic. Service was great. It connects to a market where you can also purchase groceries and the like. Excellent tacos !!

I ordered the Birria tacos meal which comes with 3 tacos.
The salsa and chips were fresh and delicious. The salsa was amazing and flavorful. I really liked it! It didn’t tase like jarred salsa.
The service was a little slow to have 4 tables . My waitress was super sweet!
This will be my go to Mexican restaurant. I really liked this place.
They have a little grocery store on the side with a meat market and pastries options.

Great tacos the best since I been living on this side of town since 2019. Always take other people they love it too especially their sour cream. Love their freshly cooked crunchy Chicharrones with a the fat under skin and chunky meat at end. Like a Dominican style Mexican joint.

The only authentic Mexican restaurant I’ve had in Jacksonville. It’s like for real hard-core Mexican. Try it. I had the pozole and it was so good. The tacos are legit, the asada plate was good, and the chips and salsa were good. I do wish the chips were warm but that’s OK. The place was super clean. Will come back again. I would however, like just a tad bit more attention from the server. The service wasn’t bad but maybe just be where we can see her in case we need something or have a question.

Mid tacos tbh. All tacos are made with milagro tortillas. Steak was seasoned weird tasted more like cumin and lime. Chorizo had a strong chipotle flavor? Def not authentic Mexican chorizo. Carnitas were super salty. The good tacos were birria and barbacoa. The good taco search continues.

As other reviews mentioned, the tamales are reheated and bad.
I ordered 2 chicken tamales and I was not able to eat them. The edges were hard as a rock, the chicken was burned inside, it clearly looked like they were not fresh and they were overheated.
The service was also bad, there were 4 waitresses and they were chit chatting behind the bar. Our server was not attentive and she looked lost out in the space. She never came by to ask if we needed anything additional and didn’t bother to bring us the check, we had to get up and ask for our check on the counter.
We had to pick and choose a decent table to sat on, because all the tables were dirty.
The tables outside had empty beer bottles and trash. Same as the bar, close to the register, there was a bear bottle cap and half a cookie someone ate.
Too many servers doing nothing, not even keeping the restaurant clean, when it wasn’t even busy.
Bad food, bad service, wouldn’t recommend it.

Read it all if you want something real! My experience is important because it has to do with hygiene. It’s been a long time since I’ve been back to this restaurant and I thought both the service and the food had improved, but I was wrong. To start I had to go through four tables until I found a more or less clean one. Then I could see the floor and other dirty tables. If you want to know the worst? A waitress who finally took the broom to sweep passed that same broom over the table. Can you believe it? How disgusting!! Four waitresses doing nothing instead of cleaning the place. Outside at the entrance the dirt is disgusting, the tables with empty bottles, the floor dirty, Secondly the service was sad. From the moment I started eating until I finished, the waitress never stopped by to ask me if everything was okay or if I wanted something else and I finished and she didn’t come to bring me the bill.,, I had to go to the cashier to pay. Oh I almost forgot, my order of two tamales wasn’t good at all. Anyway… My recommendation? Don’t go eat there, don’t waste your time or money.

Real authentic Mexican food at great prices! They make you feel at home the minute you walk in. A little knowledge of Spanish would be good, but isn’t necessary. Try the tamales and pupusas!
