I live in Minnesota but travel to Miami a lot to get on different cruises but always have to stop here and get some good food. Prices are reasonable and the food is so good!!! Trust me… if I lived in Miami I’d go there every week!!

I recently stopped by El Bajareque and it felt like discovering a hidden local gem in Wynwood. The restaurant has a simple, cozy atmosphere that feels more like a neighborhood café than a trendy Miami spot.

The menu focuses on authentic Puerto Rican comfort food, and you can really taste the tradition in the dishes. I especially enjoyed the mofongo and the bacalaitos — both were flavorful, hearty, and tasted very homemade. Many of the recipes come from family traditions passed down through generations, which adds to the authenticity of the experience.

What I liked most was the relaxed, local vibe. It’s not fancy at all, but the food feels genuine and comforting, like something you’d get from a family kitchen. Portions are generous and the prices are pretty reasonable for Miami.

Overall, El Bajareque is a great spot if you want real Puerto Rican flavors and a casual, welcoming atmosphere. It’s the kind of place locals love and visitors are happy to discover

I’m here right now with my husband and couldn’t wait to give them a recommendation, we are in Miami for an event, live in Tampa, FL, but NY Ricans from the Bronx, let me tell you do yourself a favor and run here if you want a true puerto rican meal, I had the oxtail, rice, red beans and maduros, my husband had mofongo with the shrimps in creole sauce, he also had soda de mondongo, all was absolutely delicious!

I’ve tried this place twice and it always disappoints. None of the food tased authentically Puerto Rican. The menu consists mainly of typical Cuban breakfast items like toasts, coffee and oddly enough waffles. This second time I ordered lechón asado with arroz con gandulles and sweet plantains. The sweet plantains were not edible at all. They had a disgusting taste and I could tell if it was reheated from a day before or something… the arroz con gandules used non traditional rice and lacked depth or flavor. The lechón asado I ate begrudgingly because it looked like gray. I’m disappointed. You have to pay for parking.

El Bajareque is in the heart of little San Juan and everything a boriqua cafe/restó should be! I sat at the counter across from the espresso machine next to stacks of to go cups waiting for their moment and a can of florecitas. The Puerto Rico decor was on point and the whole ambiance really made me feel like I was in the heart of Puerto Rico. I got a cortadito, the bacalaitos (fire) the gandules (perfect flavor) and bistec jibarito. Would love to come back and try more!!

This place is truly a hidden gem! It’s got that cozy, hole-in-the-wall charm but is also super clean. The food is absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and such a great value for the price. I’m a picky eater, and I love everything I’ve tried here. If you’re looking for authentic Puerto Rican food that hits the spot every time, this is the place to go!

Great place for lunch. I came here while I was working in the area. The shrimp I had was delicious, very tasty, rice and plantains were good also. (Rice needed salt for my liking)
The ambiance is very laid back and chill, service was good but no wow factor.
In & out type of place, where you can enjoy traditional food at a decent price.
I would recommend.

The food was delicious but service was slow… good fresh food takes time and it was worth the wait. And the kitchen was busy. We had alcapurrias, bacalaito, and mofongo con carne frita. They also serve warm bread with butter and a side of garlic dip. Every was great!
