We thought we’d try El Azteca as I have never eaten here & a food blogger rated it the #1 Mexican restaurant in town. (We have been to several others in town). It was a Saturday night, around 7:30pm, not overly busy. Service was very slow. I was looking forward to chips & salsa. When we got them, they brought us a regular looking salsa & a light green sauce. I cannot tolerate spicy & when I tried the regular salsa it was extremely spicy. I was told the green sauce was the mild & when I tasted it, it was like a watery pickle flavor (very weird). I ended up getting queso for my chips. I ordered a seafood enchilada with refried beans. It was bland. My S.O. ordered a steak, onion & peppers burrito. He said it was decent. I did order a Jose Cuervo margarita & that was very good. We hardly saw our waitress the entire meal & had to wait a while for boxes & our check. (We saw her eating at a table with a guy as we were leaving). The gentleman who worked the hostess stand was very friendly though. Overall a bit disappointing. I doubt we will ever go back. We’ve had better experiences at other places.

I ordered the soup to go and 2 tacos. No sauce, no spoon, and apparently i paid for a bowl of “broth” maybe an inch of noodles in the whole bowl after pouring out the water…

Great service, black bean soup a must have! Food was very good. Only down side I think we were in the only room that had air conditioning!

My kiddo and I have been regulars here for almost 10 years. We stopped going as much when the original owners sold because some of the recipes were changed (my favorite enchiladas included ). Ownership has changed again and they brought the old menu and recipes back, and spruced up the place inside as well. It felt like old times again and we left full and happy. We even noticed the original owner was hosting. Brenda was our server and she did a great job even though they were busy on this Friday lunch. We will be stopping by more frequently now!

I just had my third mind-blowing meal at El Azteca, and honestly, it gets better every time. Their food? Absolute perfection-from the taco dinner to enchiladas, but their breaded steak torta? It’s unmatched. I’ve been in Fort Wayne twenty years, tried tortas everywhere, and nothing comes close. The salsas, soups, every bite bursts with flavor. Staff is unreal, too. Juan, the manager, is a total gem-always smiling, courteous, makes you feel like family. Everyone’s friendly, in a great mood, super helpful. The vibe’s so warm, like regulars are old pals. This place is my new go-to, no question. I’m already counting down to my next visit!

The queso was a great way to start! It was really good and then it all went down hill. The mahi mahi tacos could have used a bit more seasoning. The most disappointing was the “corn in a cup” the seasoning was unnecessarily hot and, in my opinion, ruined the dish. Great service though!

If I spend $60+ on carry out rice and chicken… I should receive free salsa. And if I ask about it the bartender shouldn’t be extremely rude about it.

Especially when I already buy chips and queso with the order.

SALSA

Complete shake down. Will not return

I love El Azteca. I’ve been a frequent diner for years. Their food is hot, fresh and delicious. I’m a big fan of the fideo soup and any of the enchiladas! Also, if you get a chance, try a kiwi margarita! They’re truly next level! The service is always quick and friendly. The bar has a fun atmosphere. And the bathrooms are exceptionally clean. Above all else, eating here won’t break the bank. Whether it’s a solo visit or you’re visiting with the whole family, it’s an affordable choice for great Mexican food! Excelente!

The arroz con pollo alone will be getting this review 5 stars should have an option for a 6th lol. My only true complaint is the salsa is sooo bland and horrible but tbh the food kinda gave it a comeback so I am not mad.

The food is back to the original. The newer ownership group have brought back the original recipies and the original owner to guide them and welcome patrons. Tastes like it used to years ago. Renovated inside and added a concrete patio outside, soon to be covered. Highly recommend stopping back!
